Torsten's bench works

While masking the elevators I just had a peek to check the difference between Revell’s original Steel and my modified version … :slightly_smiling_face:

Didn’t your mother tell you that peeking under the hem is rude!

Loving the variation in tone here Torsten.

Sorry for the delay in posting, guys. Had a big family party last weekend and took a few days off. It was dad’s 90th birthday. If that isn’t a reason to stay away from everything!

And as it’s May it’s also icehockey time :ice_hockey: again with Team Germany focused on reaching the the quarter finals with 3 wins and 2 losses. Next match tomorrow against the world champion Czech Republic and most likely another defeat …

Anyway, between the matches I try to have some bench time and came a bit further with my THK Phantom. First it’s masking time again and probably more covered than needed …

This morning I airbrushed Vallejo 71097 Medium Gunship Grey FS36118 as the 2nd camo. The borders are painted freehand, except for the wings …

Have to do some corrections with Medium Grey as there’s too much overspray. Used the 0,35 mm needle, the compressor was working with 0,5 bar (about 7 psi) and I thinned the paint by 60 %. Usually I thin Vallejo Model Air by 20-25 %.

Here the line of FS36118 is too thick anyway, have to thin it a bit …

And here …

When the corrections are done (and probably counter corrections :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:) I can concentrate on landing gear, hard points and ordnance. Still a long way …

Have a nice Sunday!

Wow! 90! Definitely worth celebrating on a huge milestone for your dad, Torsten! :birthday_cake:  :clinking_glasses:

Unfortunately though my support has to go Czech republic in the hockey, as my wife is Czech and well, the rest goes without saying!

But, the Phantom is a winner!

Thanks Russell! My dad is still well, especially mentally and needs no wheeled walker or stick. He’s a bit slow at walking but that’s all. I hope I’ll be that fit at his age … :crossed_fingers:

The ice hockey match ended about 2 hours ago and it was the expected defeat. But 0:5 sounds crueler than the match was. Team Germany played really well, especially in the first period and had their chances but no luck to score. 18:23 shots on goal isn’t bad either! But the world champion is still a number too big for us. So tomorrow evening we will have a do or die match against Denmark. If we win, we go to the quarter finals, if we loose, we go home …

Anyway, I couldn’t wait to demask the elevators today and this is the result. I’m quite happy with it :slightly_smiling_face:

Great to hear your dad is still doing well, Torsten :slightly_smiling_face:

The elevators are looking really sharp: nice!

Here’s hoping for a win against Denmark in the hockey for Germany :crossed_fingers:

After I made the needed overspray corrections - and counter corrections … - the radom tip still needs a tiny bit of Black. So here we go. Masked with Parafim and some Gold Tape …

… as I said a tiny bit of Revell 302 Black …

… et voilà :slightly_smiling_face: The pitot tube will become Silver later …

Today I took most masks off which took me about an hour. As I mentioned earlier it was a lot of masking this time …

… quite happy with the result …

… though again some corrections where paint went under the masks …

… especially here in the wheel bays which have some Medium Grey overspray in the White …

Further work today was primer on the fuel tanks. Not sure if I add the wing tanks, the centerline tank (in the middle) sure will be attached. Next step is preparing the landing gear.

Russell, alas Team Germany :ice_hockey: didn’t make it to the quarter finals this year. We lost in a really nerve wracking match after Overtime and Penalty Shooting :face_with_peeking_eye: with 2:1 against Denmark. One of our guys was hit by the puck in the face and broke his jaw :face_with_head_bandage: Blood on the ice … It was really a tough match for both sides with 23:23 shots on goal. In the quarter finals Denmark sent Canada home with 2:1 :open_mouth: and Sweden gave the world champion Czech Republic a lesson with 5:2 . But both winners lost their semi final so today we have the final between Switzerland and USA.

The Radom looks good Torsten…

As for the hockey, wow! I feel sorry for the player with the broken jaw!

Such dramatic twists and turns leading up to the final…

Nice paint. Looking forward to seeing the completion.

Pucks to the face generally hurt a bit. I’ve had a couple, luckily just stitches and I still have all my teeth! What I found hurt more is pucks to the shins without shin pads! I guess that’s why its called shinny.

Well done by Denmark, true underdogs.

Fun fact, a baseball hurts too.

Really I think anything to the shin, being mostly unprotected bone hurts.

Tears skin, easily infected and heals slowly.

Russell, Steve, Ryan, Jack, thanks for your feedback about the injury of Marc Michaelis. This is the moment as it was seen on TV. Didn’t look that serious first. Ignore the ads, comment is in german, sorry …

He was brought to hospital in Århus and operated the next day. Thank you, Denmark!

And this is the other scene yesterday evening. Congratulations to :united_states: Team USA :united_states: becoming the Ice Hockey World Champion 2025! It was about time after 65 years, wasn’t it?
The important part in the video starts at around minute 4, so scroll forward if you like. Happy guys jumping in joy … :slightly_smiling_face:

And to come back to scale modelling :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: I just came back from the paint booth. Yesterday White, today Grey. Airbrushed the fuel tanks with USAF medium Grey.

So, now I can take care of the wheels.

Final update of the F-4E for this month. In the past few days I added the afterburner exhaust pipes to the fuselage and the elevators. Had to drill the hole a bit wider to make the pin fit well. Now it looks very much like a Phantom … :slightly_smiling_face:

Thursday I glued the wheels to the landing gear and added them to the uderside yesterday evening. Not all gear doors are attached yet but …

… the Phantom is no tailsitter! :+1: 46 grams in the nose do their work well!

The missiles are already airbrushed but still need some detail painting. I guess, within the next week I can spray Bodenglänzer and prepare for the decals. :crossed_fingers:
Have a nice weekend everyone!

Thanks, Peter! As always I try to do my best

Have done a bit more progress. Gave the Phantom a good shower of Erdal Bodenglänzer today, 4 big cups full (each is about 4 ml). The small one has about 1 ml.

Will leave the whole thing dry thoroughly for the night and start with the decals tomorrow. Finally a silver lining for this build! :slightly_smiling_face:

Fantastic update, Torsten

Hopefully there aren’t too many decals

The decals make good progress and the CAM Decals work well together with warm water and Revell Decal Soft, though they are from 2006. Well, the first tiger is on. Needed a bit more care and softener than others but I’m quite happy how it came out :slightly_smiling_face: Still some fluff left from the cotton buds I use …

Russell, here is quite a number of decals to apply, not as many as on Eduard kits but still some. Funny, there are more turkish language stencils than english …

My NATO Diesel is almost finished! :slightly_smiling_face: All decals on and sealed. Spent 4 evenings on them. Every decal, no matter how old it is, went on like a dream. No problems at all with them. :+1:

All parts added, except the pitot tube for the usual reason …
Next photos will be the finised model, sure by the end of this week.
