Hey guys I wanted to share some wip pics of my Tristar Flakpanzer i that I managed to scrape together inside my tiny barracks room with absolutely zero ventilation and only the most basic tools.
I was very close to finishing it but unfortunately that got put on hold due to me leaving for a rotation overseas.
As it was my first model in over a year I built it OOB and the Tristar kit was a absolute dream. I havent enjoyed the build of a model so much in a long time.
Next up was a pin wash and chipping. I really took my time with the wash which I just mixed up using oils and I love how it turned out. Chipping was all done with a brush followed by rust with more oils. (Like I said we arent using any fancy products.)
Now this is where I should have just left it because I think I kinda ruined the upper surfaces of the model with mud effects. I am defiantly going to redo it once I get back to the states.
After living on a tank in ankle deep mud for a month I think the buildup of the mud is extremely spot on I am just not a big fan of the color I have.
I also added PE ammo boxes and empty magazines… I had a image in my mind of building this Flakpanzer to look like it just finished a engagement and the eventual base I will make for it will support that.
I used AMMO pigments and enamels for the effect. It was my first time using pigments in almost 3 years so that was a experience with some trial and error.
Now the figure is just a basic Tamiya one from a pz. iv kit that I got from my buddy. I painted him up in like 2 days. I think he came out perfect and is 100% the best figure I’ve ever painted.
I used all AMMO acrylics and a ink wash. Zero enamel or oils.
He gets posted up on the gun shield which the Tamiya pose fit perfectly with zero modification.
Ezra thats a nicely built and finished kit! The weathering is heavy but, in the right scenario, that’ll be spot on. Only suggestion is that if you’re weathering/muddying up the kit, make sure you muddy up the items onboard like the wooden handled items there. They stand out a bit as being a bit too clean although that could be the photo angle. I hope work doesn’t get in the way of you sharing more of your work! Stay safe mate
You can use a mre case as spray booth outside. This way it’s only drying in the barracks and not spraying. More importantly not making field day or inspections more difficult. Assuming they still have those.
Outstanding work Ezra! So good to have you back here. I am so happy that your Army career is going so well and that you are enjoying it. Expert the hell out of it. Become a Master Gunner someday.
This is old school modeling at it’s best. Basic tools and supplies to produce a superior model. You don’t need hundreds of dollars of MiG or AK products to make a masterpiece. That build, finishing, and effects are really excellent. Everything looks spot on. Your figure blows me away. It looks fantastic. Great model. Drive on!
Hi Ezra is it really you?! Aha yes formerly Panzer Modeler, great to see you again with a great build. I agree maybe over-muddied upper surfaces, could you just scrub some off with a stiff brush?
