Trumpeter 1/350 Heavy Cruiser HMS York (1941)

Your rigging looks great Si! Do you do it with fishing line or wire or sprue?
I always bend my masts when rigging, that why i try use brass for masts and yards.

Tom

Hi Tom,

I use copper wire, this is sourced from the cables for electrical kit that no longer works around the house. I roll it straight under a steel rule and on a flat surface with a bit of give in it. For me it has two advantages, it doesn’t put any strain on plastic masts and yard arms, the other on long horizontal runs like aerials, which are not under tension it gives a realistic natural sag.

Hi Si
I will try the copper cables. I used very fine wire from an old shielded TV cable, but it was so soft that it cannot be touched after installation. It stretched so easy that it lost the tension quickly.
Thanks for the tip.

Good luck Tom,

The copper fortunately has a bit of spring in it so it is not that fragile, I do sometimes bend it out of shape trying to get in place, but at least it will role straight again.

Very nice. The rigging looks great!

Thank you Martin,

It was quite a task, those tall pole masts.

Finally Commissioned the HMS York, this has been an interesting build of an interesting ship, there were a few corrections along the way, but on the whole a nice kit to build.

All in all the Eduard etch was rather good, the etched turret detail included the correct 20mm layout for B turret for her final fit.

Another British Cruiser coming soon.

Superb work!..and especially on that rigging. Copper wire you say, gotta give that a try
sometime.
Cheers,

Brilliant work Si! One of your finest so far!

Congratulations on commissioning her into the Heathwood fleet :beers::clap::clap::clap::clap::sparkler::fireworks:

As always mate, thanks for sharing and looking forward to what next crosses your work bench :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi Thomas,

She is sat on the shelve of shame, almost finished, I could do with a couple of decent aftermarket walruses, one with the wings folded and one with the ready for launch to be sat on the catapults. I will have another search in the near future.

Cheers, Si.

Thank you Joe,

Good luck giving the copper wire a go, all I will say about the next project it has a lot less rigging that the York.

Cheers, Si
