Unfinished Business 2023

Congratulations on finishing! Your Bradley looks really great and has a lot of interesting stowage items. It makes me want to build one.

What a great looking model Ron. Very nicely done. Certainly worth the effort to get it off the shelf of shame.

Time for some Sherman attention …

To get stuck back into it, I will do the metal frame for the sand bag armour… Tamiya Dark iron on the way …

Nice to see you move something stalled onto the bench John.

Lol… I know, the stalled work had stalled… Last time I posted was 7th April… …

Still, one side is done with dark iron…

Will get the other side cracked now.

And 10min later … Other side’s done.

Will start on the wheel rubber tyres tomorrow… :+1:

Wheel tyres done and I did another Mig track wash on the metal sandbag frame.

I need to add some lighter rust areas with the MIG track rust and some light rust pigments…

Ref the return wheels below,

Would they have had a more bare metal finish on the contact surface ??

Any Sherman guru’s please… Not sure on the tracks and the colour…

I know the chevron leading edge would be worn and metal finished, but what about the rest of the track, was it rubber over metal ?

Those tracks were all steel, so would oxidise to a brown and then get polished through friction when running. I think they were delivered in a protective greyish black coating but it very soon wore off.

Cheers Tom… So I’m thinking dark iron as a base then oily steel highlights ?

That’s a good wat to go. Dark Iron base with metallic grey highlights for bare metal andf a light rust wash. These particular tracks have the Duckbill cleats used during winter ops. Used by both American and Commonwealth vehicles.

Shown on a Canadian (I assume) Sherman.

And here on another Canadian vehicle; this one is a Canadian Ram Tank, converted into a “Kangaroo” personnel carrier (thanks @petbat for the correction).

Strange that we do not see more models with these duckbills. They’re a pain to assemble, so more vinyl or link n length would be quite welcome.

Panda Plastics sells a variety of track sets for VVSS Shermans, including duckbills.

Dark Iron is a good base. Be sure to grind in a load of dirt into all the nooks and crannies!

This is a Ram Kangaroo Reynier. The hull is not a Sherman but the Canadian Ram tank, itself based on the M3 not M4. Note the Mg Turret:

I so want to build a Ram…

My apologies then. I suspected it was a Ram Tank, but wasn’t sure of it.

Yeah, I know…

@Johnnych01 These tracks were ‘Muck Magnets’. They were either coated in Mud or layered in dust. I’ve seen a few ‘Runners’ with this type (Most runners have the rubber block type as they do not damage roads). Here is a good representation on an M10:

These are Rubber Block type, but you get the same result:

Note the ‘aftermarket’ tyre on the rear road wheel.
