Welcome to KitMaker Network's new forums!

This is my reply to your question. Compare with the next post which will be a reply to the whole topic.
If we were to continue replying to each other the discobot will start suspecting that we are excluding others

Reply to the whole topic. I thought I had seen indications somewhere that showed the dependency between posts without quoting …
Maybe I dreamed it …

There is an indication, but the original reply could be well 10 days ago. This makes it hard to track :unamused:

Having said that: clicking the replied ot icon folds out the post you replied too… So it is there, but hidden.

Where did you find that icon?

This one:

Just click his name. It will show you the comment I am replying to.

That is what I said

Doh… yeah I missed that part.

I don’t think there is a tree view option at this point though.

There is a filter function though:

It filters the topic to only show the selected users posts

Thanks for the instructions and encouragement. I think a big part of my problem is my computer died and I am trying to use only my cellphone.
Take care and stay safe,

yes i agree. we need campaigns. not group builds!!!

I would like to know what this trust level is about., we have to earn trust to be completely accepted or is it a ranking system like on the old site? if so i would rather have my captain bars back. i may have been a member of the old site for only four or five years but still why do i have to earn certain trust levels or privileges? i am just a little confused with trust levels and discobot (who is he?) interfaces, badges ( what happens when we all get to level 4? can we then edit others posts and unlist people?) just liked and was use to the old format. it seemed more organized and simpler, except for loading pictures.
sorry about the rant, just not much explained about how this site works, or if there is i have not found it. if we can have badges why can’t we have ribbons? this is supposed to be an improvement from the old. also do you think we can get a better like icon for military/car/railroad forums than a pink heart-lol

that is a good point golikell

Rising in trust levels takes very little effort. Discourse has this system to make life a little more difficult for spammers. More reading here:

For our SAFTY?? is this for real??? last i checked this is a model building site not a secret government agency. how can you have a site that initially restricts the members from doing what it takes to make the site viable?

Most of these pasted below in my eyes are vital to people here being able to using the site. in my opinion there should be no restrictions on posting attachments, image IMAGE LIMITS- ( how can i not be able to post more than one photo of my builds??? silly) , Not be able to post- more than three topics, more than ten replies( how do we make connections with other members like this?) Mention more than two other members in a post? this is a joke, right???
EDIT THEIR OWN POST??? really??? Send Personal messages to other members- (right from the start on the old site i was messaging other members, did i endanger them?)
WHAT ARE WE PROTECTING EVERYONE FROM?? do we have to wear a mask when we are posting too??

Send personal messages to other users
“Reply as new topic” via Link button (UI removed)
Flag posts
Post more than 1 image
Post any attachments
Post more than 2 hyperlinks in a post
Have actual links in the ‘about me’ field of their profile (will be silently and temporarily converted to plain text)
Mention more than 2 users in a post
Post more than 3 topics
Post more than 10 replies
Edit their own posts after more than 24 hours
Admins can change these limitations by searching for newuser and first_day in site settings.

I joined the original site because everyone was friendly, open, willing to help answer questions and i made several friends here. i don’t like the feeling i am being controlled or watched and my character, trust and worthiness questioned.
Maybe it’s just me but I would like to know if anyone else here find this a little odd or feel uncomfortable with these “rules”
I myself never have encountered this in other sites, I think it is a little much and not needed.
I will now go read the rest of the trust requirements. I only read the first level before reacting, should I brace myself?

You really should have kept reading. You are already Trust level 1.

Just remember, with great power comes great responsibility…

It’s all really quite simple in practice. Basically, the more you participate and patronize the forums, the more access you will get to different features.

The forums are designed and set up to be guided much more by community or group “norms” and not requiring as much directed moderation by just a few selected individuals. The more an individual participates, the more that individual has influence in the way the forums operate. This is reflected in the different “trust levels” which are, themselves, based on the amount of individual’s participation and activity on the site. Eventually, the most active participants and contributors will be the ones setting and, to some extent, enforcing the community standards.

Sure, there are and will always be a number of “super moderators” (those appointed “leaders” - TL4 - and others with higher trust levels) who will have “ultimate” authority over what happens on the forums, but “regular” members (TL3) will also have permissions to enable them to influence or steer the forums to a large extent. This reduces the burden on the few appointed “moderators,” and allows the community to by-and-large self-govern itself.

So, the new “trust levels” are actually functional rather than simply “post count rankings” In the old system, it simply didn’t matter what your “rank” was, or how many posts you may have, or how many topics you started, your “functional” level of influence on how the community behaved was exactly the same as that of the newest member - that is, effectively “zero.” Only those appointed as “moderators” had any actual “functional” influence on the site. Now your amount of activity and participation has some actual and real meaning.

I will agree that the whole Discobot thing can be more than a little confusing. However, “Discobot” is nothing more than an automatic, self-paced tutorial that demonstrates and allows you to learn and practice the various posting features built into the site. However, strictly speaking, completing the self-paced tutorials is not required.

I’ll confess that I had to start the Discobot tutorial twice before I could finish it. The first time I seemed to get myself into some sort of loop (probably because I wasn’t really paying attention, just going through the motions). However, curiosity took me to the Discourse website, and after reading some of the background on the “how’s and why’s” of the forum system, I went back and re-did the tutorial and easily finished it in just a few minutes.
