Here’s another terrible war movie definitely a bottom five contender.

1941 - even Spielberg can screw up. Charlton Heston and John Wayne were sent the script in the hope they would participate; both advised Spielberg not to make it, and the Duke was so affronted he developed a strong animosity towards Spielberg.

John Wayne’s Alamo was pretty cheesy,as was The Green Berets

I recall Melville Shavelson regretted mentioning that movie to John Wayne when he was trying to get him on board for “Cast a Giant Shadow”. The movie was not well received but is worth watching after reading Shavelson’s “How to make a Jewish movie”, his hilarious account of his travails getting the project to the screen.

I’m in the middle of watching “Lebanon” right now, not too good though.
Watched Valley of Tears a few months ago too which was excellent.

Watched Valley of Tears last week, outstanding . It’s a master work in my opinion.

Watched “Lebannon” the next day. It does have something to say, had artistic merit etc I found it nearly unwatchable…due to accumulation of filth and human waste inside the tank smeared all over everything. Nasty aesthetic.

The SF community lost one of its brothers a few years ago, Jeff “Hamchuck” Hambrick.
When I first met him his name tape actually said Hamchuck. I thought that was real name for a couple of years. A real good dude who died way too young. RIP, Jeff.

I see someone has added Gettysburg and I’m happy to see that. I liked Ride with the Devil quite a bit, not sure either would make my five best list.
