Anyone have some suggestions for limiting dust during airbrushing other than extraction fans? It seems no matter how much I sweep beforehand or wipe up dust, I still get a few random hairs landing on my projects or actually being drawn in by the fans. I know some suggest a light spritz with water to keep things down but I can’t spray some areas.

I am working in a 10x12 room with no windows, just a fume vent to the outdoors.

Wet it down if possible.

Works on 1:1 paint jobs as well.

Fighting with my 1st attempt at a HKM build. The upper fuselage component was getting large gaps, could not seal it up with clamps, so I went medieval.

I’m back! I’ve been wanting to post an update since Sunday, I just couldn’t find the energy.

I’ve been working here and there, but i’m really at a snail’s pace at the moment .

I’ve primed and did a base coat inside the upper hull.

I’ve been getting smaller parts prepared also that mount inside the upper area.

Unfortunately i messed up my ivory white base for the interior. I forgot what i did for a ratio for white and the ivory base. Whoops :grimacing:

A little more wash and once closed up, it will not be noticeable, to me anyways.

I weathered the fuel tanks and installed them.

I am so close to adding the upper hull to the lower, but i need to make the time to do.

Here i have the upper dry fit to the lower. With the hatches open, the engine will be visible to a point.

I have to get off my butt and speed the process.

I’m still enjoying the kit. It has it’s little challenges, but as stated earlier, i knew what i was getting into

And accept all .

Is the fume vent linked to a fan or just passive? What type of heating/ventilation does the space/house have? If it’s forced air, check/clean/change the furnace filter. If the furnace has a humidifier on it, check it’s working properly. I keep our air at about 40-45% humidity during the drier months. Don’t run the extraction fan in the exhaust vent after you’ve finished spraying.

The vent does have a fan; the space I’m working in is garage-adjacent and not connected to the house heating/AC system. The space itself as mentioned is barely 10x12; it was a side closet connected to the main garage and the water heater is in one corner, but it is partitioned off and doesn’t generate dust AFAIK. I’ really the only thing bringing in contaminants. I can try a little water but I can’t wet too much as I have stuff near that doesn’t tolerate moisture.

I’m wondering if somehow they are cotton fibers from my t-shirts as most of what I am dealing with are short light colored fibers that end up on random spots. My tees are mostly old concert shirts so a bit worn and frayed in places. Not there as I spray, but when I stop and take a look at what I just did they seem to magically appear. When I was priming a VW Beetle body recently the roof was nice and clean until I stopped spraying and then poof there are a few tiny hairs sitting on it.

Started and finished building this Gaz-66 from “eastern express” simple kit a small amount of extra flash to clean up. Odd part is the wheels dont stay in the tires because they are smooth so looks like I will have to super glue the wheels in to the tires. And then I finished building the UH-1D for my father presented it to him and he began to tell me story’s of hitching a ride back on the Huey to base to go to the PX to buy candy bars before going into town to visit certain “ladys”. That man sure had some interesting times over there.
