Was that at Cosford airshow? That’s when I got in one.
I’m keeping a lookout for the Kittyhawk Jag. I did hear of the problems with the ordnance, but I have a load of stuff left over from the Airfix Desert Storm Tornado. So no doubt I would be able to bomb one up properly. Somewhere in my spares is a bag full of thousand pounders!
Only problem I have with anything bigger than 1/72 is where to put it. I get moaned at if a 1/72 Spitfire happens to just appear on the shelf!
I’ll do a dual build log of the Jags once a few projects are finished. Gives me a little time to gather some references and photos.
No this was at Boscombe Down Museum, also got in a Sea Vixen and Hunter cockpit that day, made my year
Just be aware the Kittyhawk GR1/3 kit also has the wrong bomber carriers for a RAF Jag. RAF Jag’s carried their bombs inline not side by side plus you need to correct the antenna behind the cockpit, operational Jags had a single ‘T’ shaped antenna while the first (early) deployment before it kicked off and when they returned to the UK after the war had the standard twin blade antenna.
Thanks, I remember the old Airfix 1/72 having those. Was going to try to salvage them for the Italeri.
How about the droptanks, were they the French pattern too?
Talking about the French twin stores carrier, were they the same as sometimes carried by the F-18 or a completely different design? Can’t seem to find any photos showing them clearly.
Not sure about the tanks, I’ll have to check as I only have a couple of French Jags in the stash, most of my Jag’s are RAF with an Oman, Ecuador and Nigerian planned. Looking at the bottom photo below the centre line tank is different as the the fins have end plates.
Not sure about the F-18 as never really looked into it, not an aircraft that holds much interest for me.
Thanks for those. I can see now that they’re a bit different to the F-18 dual carriers. Just asking because I have a Mirage 2000D I want to give a more up to date weapons fit. I’ve seen lots of photos of them carrying a pair of Paveway’s on the dual carrier on the belly pylon.
Khouli, not cool my friend. We’re more enlightened here. Let’s not regurgitate that old myth, even if it was meant as a joke.
Stephen no problem, sorry I can’t help with the F-18 question it’s just not an aircraft that I have found interesting so have very little knowledge of. All that said I need a crash course as I intend to build a CF-188 as used during the Gulf War.
Regarding the Mirage 2000 I just picked up the Italeri 2000C in the Gulf War anniversary box, this will be my entry to the Made in France campaign. I need to do some research as my Mirage 2000 knowledge is next to zero.
That’s great reference for me to work from thanks. Unfortunately though mines the Revell rebox of the old Italeri 1/72. The kit has a pair of AS30L’s, common in the 90’s but the decals are for a 2014 dated aircraft. I think the AS30 might have been obsolete by then?
I’m thinking of picking up one of Special Hobby Mirage F1’s. I remember a review mentioning they come with a fair bit of ordnance, so might have something I can use.
Wouldn’t mind working on a bigger scale as I’ve always liked the Mirage series. Something very cool about delta’s.
Edit: now I know what it’s called, the AUF-2, I’ve been able to find some with a quick Google search! Very happy about that.
This is the holy grail kit for me. My grandfather worked at Orenda in Toronto, and I must have easily spent half my childhood in the Canadian Air and Space museum, where they had the only 1:1 replica of the Arrow. The museum has since closed, but the replica is still close by. I used to be obsessed with this jet, and always wanted to build one.
The detail is crap though. Really bad. But since I have access to the real thing, as well as loads of reference material, I very well may end up buying a resin printer and making some improved parts for it. I even have reference material for the Iroquois engines…
