There’s some Spitfires in the future. Postie delivered these yesterday.
as well as a eduard bf 109 with 2 metal tubes for the Me P1099B revell I’m working on (I broke them by accident)
This arrived today. Unfortunatly postie crammed it in my mailbox instead of laying it on top …
Book is full of great photos of Avengers, Hellcats, Corsairs, Fireflies etc …
Got a decent bonus at work and a good tax refund, so treated myself to the HKM 1/48 Lancaster. I normally stick to 1/72 for 4 engine bombers but the Lancaster is a favorite of my mine. A museum near my home town got one to working but not flying condition and I was able to witness them fire up the engines for the first time with my grandpa who was RCAF.
Added the other 3 as I wanted some more twin engine aircraft. I love the BF-110! I know the eduard kit has some fit issues, but it’s still the best 110 in 1/48. Figured I had to have the lightning after the amazing reviews I’ve read, and who doesn’t like a lightning. The Beaufort was a bit of an impulse buy, as I like naval aircraft, plan to do it as a Malta bird
There are build logs for the Lancaster, it definately also has some fit issues regarding the internals.
I’ve built the Eduard 110 and it definately has fit issues, for me it was the nose section and gun bay.
In my experience, of ICM, the issues i’ve personally encountered meant that the Ju 88 ended up in the bin, it was that bad. No idea if the Beau’ will have the same or similar issues. I keep staring at the He 111 on the shelf and almost dread starting it.
I’ve built the ICM spitfire and it met the same fate as your Ju-88 for was overall awful.
I read quite a few build reviews on the Beaufort before buying it as I am not quite weary of ICM. A couple minor for issues were noted but nothing major.
I am aware from your build log and other reviews I’ve seen that the eduard Bf-110 has some nasty fit issues. Sadly I love the 110 and Eduard is one of the only games in town. It was relatively cheap at $30 so I figured I would gamble.
I was unaware of fit issues on the Lancaster
I also found that the decals were unwilling to conform to the aircraft’s curved profile, especially if you’re trying to recreate the box art, as I did.
IIRC it was to do with how the cabin floor interfaced with the components mounted to the fuselage side walls. I don’t think it was a majour issue but needed a work-around.
Phew. Good to know the Lancaster fit issue isn’t too major.
I saw that in your build log as well. I am leaning towards doing the one from Iraq, or buying after market decals! Did you also have issues around the engine cowling? I’ve read that is a problem area
Now I think about it, the engine cowls were a pain too. Needed lots of filler.
Nice addition to your stash…
Watto
Kinda mucked up my 1/65 revell x-3 and I wanted a 1/72 kit to go with my x-15 anyhow
Now, I did promise myself to cut back on buying anything for a while, but I have had a bit of a splurge.
All arrived this week.
First a couple of ICM weapons sets which looked like they could come in useful for a few projects I have planned.
And a Tamiya scriber I’ve been meaning to pick up for years. Hopefully it’ll work as advertised.
And casually looking on eBay, I found this sorry looking Italeri MB339 going cheap. Box is battered and covered with an ugly delivery sticker, but fortunately the kit was bagged and decals look good. This is the boxing with the gunpods that the Frecce Tricilori issue is missing.
Also included as a bonus was a conversion kit and decals for a NZ aircraft.
A this was an impulse buy, Rush Models decals and pylons for a Ukrainian F-16.
And of course, I needed an F-16 to fit them too, so nabbed Revells MLU.
Looks like I’ll be busy!
I have the Tamiya scriber, it works very well for deeping panel lines and if you do armor you can use it to make flame cuts.
sorry for being late. Kurfürst means prince-elector.
Just arrived directly from Polska and postie came with the parcel to my door. I live in the 3rd floor with no lift, which means 63 steps one way. 6 days from order to delievery …
Thanks. I’m going to have a play around with it on a couple of cheap and nasty kits from the stash. I’ve got a scriber I’ve had for years. A pointy diamond tipped thing, but I think it’s more suited to scribing cut marks on metal. Doesn’t leave a very sharp line in plastic, although it is good for making small work like hatches etc.
Can you explain what you mean by flame holes?
