What the postman brought today (Armorama)

This arrived today from BNA. Lots of pieces for my Sd.Kfz.251 build.

How much did you pay for shipping from Spain? I’d love to order directly from AK but the shipping prices always drive me away.

Arrived today from Andy’s HHQ

Go to the AK website, add items to your cart, and when you enter the address it will give you a shipping rate. But I’m sure you know that ordering one item from overseas is seldom economical. You need to add a few items to make it worth the cost of shipping.

Please provide a review on the RP cutter. I have it on my wishlist to replace one I bought from Micro-Mart.

Thats quite a haul, I saw a review of the 250/1 and it looks like a great kit.

I’m sure you’re gonna relish the building and weathering etc.

Envious…Watto :+1:

Yeah that’s what I’ve done; still a tad out of my price range though, but if I do I will do that for sure.

Will a short review do? “Chuck the Chopper out with the garbage where it belongs, buy this one instead.”

I used to own a Chopper II and was very much not impressed by it, especially the stops that came with it and the useless inch markings all over it. At a model show, I came across someone selling the RP Toolz one, so I handled it for a bit and because it felt like good quality, decided to buy it. I then sold the Chopper on to someone else, and have not regretted either decision for a moment.

Of course, if you don’t regularly find yourself having to cut equal lengths of plastic strip etc., it’s an extravagance that you can do without. But if you do frequently need to cut equal lengths of plastic strip etc., it will make your life a lot easier.

Also don’t forget import duties, tariffs, handling charges, and whatever else you may end up having to pay once the parcel enters your country.

FWIW, this goes both ways across the Atlantic. Buying things from the USA when you’re in Europe is generally just as uneconomical as the other way around.

Shipping was $29 to me in CT and would be the same to you in FL. It’s DHL and it got here in 2 days. It’s the only shipping option they offer. In the USA there are no other fees added to the $29. I did buy some other stuff to make it worth the shipping.

Barney, will do.

Looking forward to testing the RP out. It feels like a precision tool and light years better than my old no name plastic chopper.

Watto, agreed Takom looks like they did fantastic on this one. I’m looking forward to the 251/1

I got my Takom 250\1 from Andy’s pre-order yesterday, too. I dug into the box right away. This kit looks like a grand slam for Takom. The molding is crisp, the detail is sharp and plentiful. From all the parts I have dry-fit, the engineering is spot on. The tracks are easy to assemble and the front tires are molded styrene. Interior is complete with decals for the dashboard. Measurements done on ML scale this kit out to within .25mm of dead on accurate. This kit can be built OOB and get a 100%.

@RandyT , as requested my impression on the Takom 250/1 kit.

Without reference material on the 250/1 vehicle, zero opinion on accuracy, other than it looks nice in the box.

Hull looks sweet and crisply molded, blemish free. There’s a small reasonable set of PE that has protective film on both sides. The clear parts look good and distortion free.

The tracks are workable at 38 links per side IIRC. Two parts per link so 152 parts for both tracks. Both sides of the links are free of punch parts. Cleaning up ~450 + attachment points will be required which isn’t too bad IMHO for a pair of workable link kit tracks.

I like the design of the front wheels having built a similar style wheel in a Dragon. Delighted Takom went with plastic instead of vinyl or rubber wheels. Likewise, impressed with attention to interior detail and molding.

Good selection of add on’s like several tarps to choose from if one wants to include the vehicle cover. I feel these were a nice addition and added a good value as aftermarket isn’t necessary and many will be happy with the provided options

The instruction booklet is small but picture size is reasonable. The part locations appear clearly identified on first glance. Several decal options are provided. IIRC, 14th, 11th, 24th Panzer Divisions plus Gross Deutschland Panzer Grenadier Division for summer of 1942.

For $30 on pre-order the kit seems like an excellent value however the truth is always in the build but I’d expect this to be one Takom’s better kits. Overall, I’d willing pay ~ $38 or so for what’s in the box.

Will comment on the RP Toolz & Zimmerit tools shortly.
