Not exactly sci-fi as such but what if alternative history ,Takom’s re-issued their object 279 in 1/35 with a new figure!
I’ve got the Border 1/35 Apocalypse tank as well and im thinking possibly a diorama with both - figures are a problem as there’s very few NBC ones and fewer in a soviet style.
It could be sci-fi’d up quite nicely.
Much cooler box art as well
Maybe a chance that hull shape could be a base for this:
“Hammer’s Slammers”, David Drake, novel cover art.
Not exactly a literary “tour de force” but a book I’ve reread any number of times, still enjoy and have always had the idea of a build in the back of my mind.
Probably a stretch, but a possibility?
Cheers,
Colin
Bolo, Hammer’s Slammers, and Renegade Legion were all favorites of mine, not for the stories, but for the concepts. As a kid, I filled many notebooks with sketches of grav tanks and other mecha, including things similar to the Destroid Defender a bit further up.
When my skill with FreeCAD is sufficiently advanced, one of my first 5 projects will be some form of grav tank in 1/35 scale.
That cover is so 1980s. I love that the super advanced tank has a targeting reticle on the gun barrel.
I’m not familiar with Renegade Legion but always thought Bolo was great for both the stories and the concept. The Bolo short story “For the Honour of the Regiment” has always stuck with me and the idea of “1/2 megaton per second firepower” in a “continental siege machine” was just plain cool.
Thanks for the memory jog.
Cheers,
Colin
I love Hammer’s Slammer’s! ,Ive got and read all of the slammers books and pretty much everything else David Drake wrote! ,Bolo is another one too
I might have to get another kit ,the 279 would be great for a Slammer’s Blower !
Kit comes with a 152mm gun barrel for a variant with an isu-152 gun ,it could be used for the main gun though it’s 152mm instead of 200mm but a bit of greebling fix’s that
It’s more appropriate for the Wargaming forum, but Brigade Models has 6mm and 15mm miniatures for Hammer’s Slammers as well as a rulebook in both PDF and softcover. The illustrations could be used to provide ideas for conversions.
Good grief! Is that a Davy Crockett on the Jeep?
Well these arrived yesterday, all 3D printed to a 12" size.
