What the postman brought today (Modelgeek)

The figure kit of Famine is $28 + shipping? I just want to make sure I’m reading this right and this is not just for the file to print your own, right? I find this very affordable for this product if it’s for the printed kit.

@KoSprueone Yeap, when I purchased mine a couple of weeks ago they were £25 each or the set £89 but they had a 10% sale on so ended up with the set for £79. Yes they are already printed NOT STL files.
For that price I couldn’t say no, plus for me as I’m in the UK postage was free due to what I’d spent.

I had this book arrive to add to my Land of the Lost collection. I was nine years old when the original series premiered and I grew up watching it and I have always had a great appreciation for the show.

Your acquisition caused me to take a walk down Memory Lane and read summaries of various Battlestar Galactica episodes. Vehicles like the Colonial Shuttle and Landram were no longer in the memory banks! Designs from that era have a great deal of character. Modern stuff is often more sophisticated but lacks something.

Have you noticed a serious lack of science fiction models related to anything originating in this century? A number of Battlestar Galactica, Dune, Gundam, Macross, Space Battleship Yamato, Star Trek, and Star Wars models post date the year 2000, but they are all based on things from the previous century. The science fiction genre is a juggernaut in 2025, yet none of the the stories from this century, none of the ships, are memorable.

Perhaps that is just a function of age. After a certain point, one has seen almost everything and all new things look like old things.

I have an opinion on this if you look at the list of universes that you made, they all have a heavy staying power even into modern times and a lot of the ships/vehicles/equipment are being carried over into modern stories or reimagined stories from those universes. I think it’s a case of if it aint broke don’t fix it. I haven’t seen too many new Sci-Fi movies/shows from recent time that I have seen and got excited about building a model from.

Yes, that is true in plastic, which is why I went to buying 3D printing even though I don’t own a 3D printer. If you can’t buy it from a hobby store, then hire someone to make it or 3D print it yourself. With the high-resolution 3D printer, the modeling hobby didn’t die.

ETSY is mainly the place I go to shop for 3D prints. Just search under “NAME spaceships” and you’ll get loads of results for your viewing and model buying pleasure. ETSY 3D printers usually cut off the sprue support trees, and their 3D printers are so advanced and high-resolution that they print with no visible lines.

I usually avoid eBay now as most of those 3D prints and resin casts are knockoffs from China.

They won’t be cheap, but for the size, they might be worth it. Here is a 17-inch Neo Constitution-class starship from Star Trek for the price of $116.65 USD. Shipping is $32.41 from Australia. I am not affiliated with this ETSY seller.
