Latest addition to my Mcfarlane Warhammer 40K collection the AP version of the Ork Nob with Shoota and he’s a big chonky boy ,I’m really looking forward to painting this guy up
No pics but I recently picked up two of David Doyle’s latest releases in his Legends Of Warfare series; the Panther and the K5 Railgun.
These aren’t the be-all end-all books on the topics but if you’re like me and want a good general reference on a particular subject these are very inexpensive and he is generous with photos and illustrations. I picked up both for less than $40. They are 128 pages, so it’s a bargain and he runs sales all the time. The armor selection is slowly growing but there are still lots of aircraft and naval options.
I already have some great references on the Panther but there are a lot of pics in this book I didn’t have in those others and I have many Panthers in my stash. There are a few photos of camo applications that look like the secondary colors were painted as one might a wall that I want to try and replicate instead of using an airbrush for the green and brown. Basically I’m going to make a 1/35 brush and simulate painting like I am actually standing there next to the tank with a bucket of paint at my feet. Make sense? I already built a Leopold but I haven’t made a proper base yet or completed the crew so I got it for photos of the gun in use to build a diorama around.
Also I have met David a few times when he comes into Atlanta for meets and he and his wife are nice people and I like to get my cash to the person who actually created the product whenever possible, so check him out at DavidDoyleBooks.com if you haven’t already done so.
Only had a quick look in the box, but it looks great! The crew are nicely moulded. Faces could be a little sharper, but they do bear a good likeness of the original cast.
I might put this aside with the Shuttle for my summer holiday build. I might try a simple light rig to light up the interior, as I think it could end up being quite dark when buttoned up.
Now, if only they would do an interior for the DS9 Runabout?
Normally they make the faces a bit off for licensing purposes, but seeing as most of the cast has passed away I wonder if their families would be fussy about more authentic renderings of these TV icons?
I would think Shatner would love thousands of mini Kirks all over the world.
I’m sure Shatner would love little mini-me’s everywhere, especially if they brought in dollars!
Good point on that. It’ll be a challenge to paint them up. Luckily I have a lot of resources to hand to help out. The Spock and McCoy heads are really well done.
Although I can’t think of an episode where the entire bridge crew were aboard the shuttle! Wonder if it might be better going with the cast of the Gallileo 7 episode?
They’re different figures. These are completely new tooled. That does pose an interesting question though. I have got the bridge set. When I get around to opening up the bags I’ll do a test in the bridge seats and see if they fit.
