That is building up great Don. I have to agree on the quality of these Zvezda kits, I am looking forward to doing the T90MS I have and finishing the Pantsir. Your engine looks great and again, more lovely details, shame it will hidden away. Looking wonderful
Glad you got the whole thing with the truck identity sorted out- the South Sudan camo scheme is even more interesting than the Nigerian one.
Just the model for now Bert. I’ve been looking at figures but I can’t find any that fit the bill that won’t require a lot of conversion. No base for this one, I’m already rapidly running out of shelf space. I desperately need to upgrade my shelving.
EEEEwwwwww. That’s your afternoon.
And then there’s 40 more for the other end….
Wake me when you are done lol
Wake up @Johnnych01 !
Actually wasn’t that bad. I think the covers took me a half hour or so. Worth it because the insides of the barrels have some pretty good seams that you’d never be able to hide.
Cheated on the back end though and used the kit parts.
Honestly, as has been the case with a lot of the PE from this set, the kit parts are just as nicely detailed. In this case, the etch/stamp/however they shape this was off centre and it would have looked off had I used the PE covers.
This bumper on the other hand looks really nice. Much better scale than the kit piece and better detail.
Because I plan on having the hood open, or more likely removable to take a look, there were some pretty big ejector marks that need tending to.
These are inside both fender assemblies and another 4 under the hood it self.
Once I get them cleaned up, I’ll be ready to start the jigsaw of paint and assembly that will be the body. If you glue everything together there are large areas that will be inaccessible to paint but highly visible on the finished piece, especially the turntable for the launcher and the back of the cab and a few other places.
Unfortunately, you need the cab in place to fit the fenders, hood and bumper because it squares up their alignment, and due to the shape of the engine, you can’t just pop it on temporarily because it all ends up kind of locked in place.
Looking good … And … Zzzzzzzzzzz
Lookin’ mighty fine!
Excellent progress Don. Happy painting!
Managed to get some paint down. I’m sticking with Russian modern green as the base. Looking at that photo, I’m getting the impression that those other colours were sprayed over the factory green. They look very rattle can, especially that gloss black.
I think I’m going to try something different and spray the rest as acrylics. I have a Vallejo Air brown and yellow that are almost dead matches and it’ll save me a lot of alchemy.
Lookin’ boss so far with just the green. A man after my own heart, using what’s available and convenient and not sweating over whether the colors are “correct ” or not.
Progress has been slow. I messed my back up last week and haven’t actually been able to sit at my bench long enough to do anything worthwhile. Felt better today so I got the black down.
I only have one view of my subject, so rather than try and replicate/extrapolate, I’m just winging it. My backstory being that two poor conscripts who’ve never seen a spray gun before today we’re told to get the truck painted fawran, or they were going to be on the next mine clearing detail.
Also had a moment of panic when my airbrush decided to pack it in after I cleaned it. Air valve got stuck and I couldn’t make heads or tails of why or how. Thankfully the “walk away and come back in an hour” method worked and now everything runs just fine.
The fear of the mine clearing detail obviously worked…they did a great job of spraying it
Got the rest of the camo done today!
Looks like our poor conscripts have won a reprieve from mine clearance (for now).
And a peek at the engine
I still haven’t decided if I’m going to model it open or just leave it free floating
That will be an outstanding camo scheme once things get toned down with some weathering. Really great color choices me thinks.
Indeed great looking colors! And that engine deserves an opened hood…
Thanks DV.
The yellow is a lot less vibrant in person. Certainly isn’t the most tactical choice, but it sure looks cool on parade.
But it’s that yellow that gives it the wow factor when you first look at it. It draws you in.
