Hi all,
Whilst waiting for the coating of DAS to dry on the roof I decided to do a tad more landscaping. I’m trying something I’ve never used before, teddy bear fur,
.
I’ve cut it to rough size and given it a base colour using diluted acrylic and glued it to the base. Once glue and paint have dried it’ll hopefully stand more upright and then I’ll trim it to various lengths that are more in scale, and then start to tweak it was additional colour and normal static grass.
If I can get the teddy bear fur to work I might be able to use it in future for large areas in any scale,

Please note, no teddy bears were harmed in the making of this diorama,
.
Cheers,

Will be interested to see how this pans out. The idea looks and sounds good and i can see the potential.
Did the bocage hedgerows have grass up them like that ? not sure, so just asking. Also, if you are using glue on it, will that not make it clumpy ? how do you plan on getting it to look like fine grass??
That’s good otherwise PETA would be all over you.

John,
Looking at various images they quite often show grass clearly at the base and lower parts of the slope and then it disappears into rough undergrowth. So my idea is to trim the grass very short on the upper/top parts of the bank before I add tangled undergrowth and then hedges.
The grass in the fields will be very long in places, and shorter in others to give variation. The glue I mentioned is underneath the backing material that holds the fur in place, so doesn’t actually come into contact with the fibres.
I think once the fur is trimmed shorter it will become finer…least that’s my hope,
…you’ll be one of the first to see if it works or not,

Ryan,
Is PETA like our RSPCA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals)? Or is she some dark haired siren, if it’s the latter I would have no objections to her being all over me,
.

Sure sounds like a similar group but I do like the idea of a siren better.

Cool, just wondered.
Another thought, do you think it would be worth investing in a pair of hairdressers thinning scissors to make the fur/grass uneven ?
Sorry G, I missed that about the Tiger earlier, no. Not yet … Should be Mon or Tue.
Hi John,
Good idea about the scissors, I had already been thinking I might need some with a curved end…if they exist,
.
The T2 will be something to look forward to this coming week,

Hi all,
And now the teddy bear fur after its first trim, it needs a bit more teasing out and trimming,
.
And will need other grass adding, and maybe a bit more colouring.

Sounds like you will be starting a new career as a hairstylist soon.
Looks good.
Gotta say G, That is looking like it has a lot of great potential. With the right trimming and various cuts and some colour variations, I think it will look great. Good find

Hi Ryan,
With my eyesight they’d all end up with crooked trims,

Hi John,
Thank you, this is a bit of a trial and error build, but the teddy bear fur does seem to have potential, I also think it will be good in larger scales,

Hi all,
Managed a few hours scribing the roof as the DAS had dried, and then gave it a quick wash of colour.

That farmhouse is beginning to be a bit of a show stopper G… Looks brilliant with the direction you’re taking it.

With all the hairstyles out of work for a year it’s the new in look since someone has been practicing.
Your base is coming together very nicely, keep it up.

Hi all,
Some good weather here today, so I have only managed to start on the second gate column, hope to get it finished tomorrow,
, and finished covering the road area with a skin of DAS.
Both the building and gate column are still removable so they can be worked on.
