1/72 A4 Base (2021)

Don’t forget… Vehicles lol…
Seriously, the base work and the building look outstanding. The stonework colour and tone is really nice.

Impressive work G! I like it a lot. /Erik

At last the KT arrived. Can now do a few rough sketches and once hull is built start the turret conversion to the radar tracking theme👍

And no more comments about the lateness of the day @Tank_1812 :joy:

I opened the box for a quick check… God, I forgot how small they are lol.

Baby next to big brother.

I believe it was you who started with timeliness of project, as a slow builder I would never bring that. :sunglasses:

Hi John and Ryan,

As instructed, I’ve finally ordered a Cromwell and a Sherman Firefly, they should arrive this week, :slightly_smiling_face:.

I was also hoping to order some figures, but the HAT British Tank Riders are ridiculous when you add delivery, or the other option is someone offering a single sprue of 11 figures, but would prefer to get the full box.

Cheers, :slightly_smiling_face:,

Hi Erik,

Thank you for the kind feedback, it means a lot coming from a Braille Scale Wizard like your goodself, :slightly_smiling_face:.

Hi John,

Good to see your baby T2, bet it’s still as big as a 1/35 Universal Carrier or Jeep, :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:.

It’s not far off to be fair. It’s just odd seeing a Tiger that small. But in fairness the detail is really nice on it. Nice and crisp, and no flash or other marks to cause concern. So well done Revell for that.

Glad you have ordered a Cromwell and Firefly G, who are they made by ?

I did a bit on the KT, to get off the mark.

Got the turret put together minus the barrel as that’s not going on.

Wheels are nicely detailed and have one side connected.
The rear of the hulltub had a very tiny twist to it, but once the rear plate went in and some masking tape was on it straightened out fine.

The 1/35 King Tiger in the pic above will be the radar control vehicle when I do this in 1/35 later in the year…

Off to a good start. Looking forward to seeing how it turns out, often thought about buying one of these. I do like small scale armour and I really must get back into building them. Got most of the Matchbox range waiting to be built.

I have to say I’m impressed with it. I have to order the Modelcollect E100 128mm flak40 so will see what that detailing is like, but I can see me getting a few more the Revell armour kits if this or is anything to go by. :+1:

I built their Panther and Cromwell years ago. Went together quite well from what I remember. The fiddly link and length tracks on the Cromwell were a bit of a pain but turned out ok after a bit of mud to hide my mistakes! The Stug IV was quite good too.

You were right G !!

Hi John,

Definitely not a small kit for 1/72nd, nice progress though, :slightly_smiling_face:.

You’ve probably seen the following review, but put it here just in case, Revell Tiger II Preview.

Hi all,

Not much progress, it’s all fiddly bits,, finished the construction of the second gate column and given it a first coat of paint. and added some basic detailing inside the house. Also added silly little bits like projecting cills for the windows, and the steps to the bricked up door.

Cheers,,

Great detailing on the inside… Looks very period 40s french farmhouse…nice touch with the outside steps and the attic rafters… Hope your adding spiders webs as well :+1:

So, it’s a bit of a WIP… But hopefully you will see the concept. I have said I will be doing X2 E100 128mm flak 40s and a KT hulled tracking/radar control vehicle. Now I have the KT hull and I can get some size perspective, I may need to go down to only 1 E100 as I think 2 may overwhelm the A4 base area. Maybe a supply type veh instead ?

Anyway. I mentioned the KT hulled control vehicle. I had various hair brained ideas, but the one I’m going with (for now ) is this.

It’s only mocked up at the moment and the tracking dish is just taped in place so you get the idea.

There will a main hydraulic piston mounted to top of the blanked off barrel and that will be connected to the bottom of the dish so it can be pulled horizontal for moving. There will be various cables and junction boxes on the hull for the cables to the AA flak guns so they would be remotely moved onto targets etc.

There is obviously alot of tidying to do and lots of little details to factor in… But that’s the plan so far

Hi John,

Nice work on the radar thus far, :slightly_smiling_face: :+1:, what is it made from, a spare glacis plate, or a dozer blade of some sort, ?

I’ve just ordered some figures, settled on the Valiant ‘Tommies’, they get a reasonable write up in ‘Plastic Soldier Review’, slightly tall being the main criticism. However, the main reasons I settled on them is a) they’re hard plastic, so maybe easier to paint and convert, 2)not so focused on combat poses, and 3) you get spare heads and arms for variation, :slightly_smiling_face:.

Cheers,,

I think I will be going down the figure route as well, non combatant if I can find some. Hopefully with resupply poses or similar.

I wondered who would ask that about the radar dish lol …
Its actually the middle side skirt from the Trump E100 with the inside edge parts removed, filled and sanded down. I will be giving it some more radar looking bits and it will have various cables coming and going from it. The Round grey mount its located on which is on the turret is another optional part from the E100. There is also a bit from an 88mm recoil buffer, and there will be various bits of fret from the spares stash. I went for the probable period chunkier look as I think in that time frame, it would be fairly new tech and not as refined and compact as it is nowadays. there wont be a barrel, but on the front of the barrel sleeve will be some counter weights.

Way to recycle a kit part. Next thing you know you will be doing made up sci-fi kits.
