Greg, unlike our expectations, the Sherman applique armor set got sold 0 times. None, zip, zero.
Some 3D prints over the weekend:

The details captured were INSANE!
Next to Legend’s version - the Legend’s looks good but when you turn them around, then it’s a completely different story:
Legend’s doesn’t have any details in the back - just resin block.

At x8 magnification, you can see that the printer even attempted the 3-prong buckle clip detail in 1/35!!!

CAD of replacement tires for AFV Club Husky MK. III VMMD in 1/35 done.
Not 100% satisfied with the tread patterns but it’s the best I can do with my limited skills…
Haven’t mastered the lattice modifier on Blender yet so cannot do the “weighted look”. I’ll try some new skills next time when I do some tires.
Looking forward to how they 3D print this weekend.
Happy modeling, CADing and 3D printing!
I don’t think you’ve mentioned if you use Fusion or not but what I did for the tires I made, I used the T-spline feature to manipulate the surface of the tire to flatten it.
Thanks a lot for the tip, Mike! Will definitely try that on Fusion360. I do use it time to time.
M151 jeep suspension upper A-arm CADded. It is not 100% accurate but it should be acceptable to fit existing kits (It’s a small part) in 1/35 scale. The part is completely missing from all Academy and Tamiya models, and it is annoying because the arm is visible in various angles. DEF model’s wheel kit has them but didn’t want to pay for the whole set just for the A-arms: plus, their shape was a bit suspect.

Kind regards,

James, what would the front add on armor for this version cost? i plan on using it on Tamiya’s easy 8 M4.
Husky Mk3 VMMD tires in 1/35 printed!
I am fairly satisfied with the result. Just gotta put them on the kit after building.
OK, so I have decided to crank out a “correction set” for venerable and easily available Tamiya or Academy M151A2 jeep kits (if you have been doing this hobby for a while, I’m sure many of you had built one from the 80s or even the newer issues).
First, I revised the CAD designs for the upper suspension A-arms after getting hold of more reference photos. The shape was rounder than I had originally drawn:
Second, I CADded the M151A2 front grill to solve the annoying molded headlight issue [I am aware of DEF’s DM35133 set but I wanted to see if I can build one on my own]. I plan to DIY the clear lenses by using a UV-clear resin (you can also use a 2-part clear epoxy resin from Hobby Lobby or Michaels if in the US/Canada) or 3D print them separately.
Lastly, I CADded these spring shocks and columns/sticks to correct the kits’ heights. Currently, all the kits are doing low rides - they should be at least 2-3 inches higher in real life (around 76 mm or 2.18 mm in 1/35 scale). So I can use these parts to correct the heights. Not the perfect solution but should improve.
Spring for the front, spring for the rear, columns for the front, then for the rear suspensions/wheels:
Those sticks can go to the highlighted sections to add the needed height.
Planning to print these out this weekend.
Kind regards,
James
I am going to CAD another crucial (annoying) omission from this legacy M151A2 kit. The “Army” type front fender:
I’ll also CAD M151A1 front grill since it shouldn’t be too hard to convert the A2 version:
Does the bottom Marine Jeep have an Army bumper? Kinda looks like it to me. As it looks like an airshow, I wonder if it’s a converted Jeep or in service because it’s a Reserve unit.
Yeah, it looks to have an Army type bumper. Probably should not be a reference photo for accuracy - appears to be some civilian conversion or re-build and not in service.
The M151 “Army” type front bumper WIP. Just need to reshape and put those towing shackles in the right place:
OK, calling this M151 Army bumper CAD done!
Doubt that some of those tiny tow shackle details are going to show up in 1/35 however…
Hope to print these this weekend…
I think Tamiya/Academy clone can be reworked to be a USMC version but yeah, not for the Army.
The Tamiya M151A1 kit has both the Army and USMC bumpers. It has all the parts to build either type. It is a pretty good kit and only really needs the upper control arms, flat (Willys MB-stye) steering wheel, and some steering and other underside details to really dress it up and correct it.
Army bumper on it.
Interior details.
Underside details.
More info on them where I review and compared the Academy and Tamiya M151A1 and M151A2 on the old site.
Good to know. i really want to build a 716th MP Mutt from the Vietnam War era.
Sort of like this? I also used the Legend M151A1 update set and a light/siren I found on eBay from a 1/32(?) police car model.
Yea, the new Tamiya M151A1 VN War kit has both bumpers and is more detailed. To clarify myself, my new CAD of the Army bumper is to improve the old Tamiya/Academy clone M151A2 kits.
Even though the Tamiya M151A1 includes new details, it still suffers the low height issues, lack of undercarriage details as mentioned, lacks clear lenses, etc.
