Not sure of the actual technical name, but they are bump stops to keep the wheels from deflecting too high. If you’ll notice each one is in conjunction with the road wheel mount
More information on the bump stops. They line up with these posts on the road wheel mounts, if the wheels deflect up too high, the posts hit the stops. I don’t think they’re present on the Tamiya or Academy kits. This is the AFV Club M60A1
You can just barely make the post out in your own pic
Thanks for pointing that out, Jim! I can add that detail to my next build. Those will be very difficult to see in 1/35 once the tracks are added.
You’re welcome! If you dig around a bit for Takom or AFV Club builds, maybe even Dragon, you’ll see exactly what I pointed out
Don’t think the Tamiya/Academy M60s have that particular bump on the suspension arms.
I do have an unbuilt Academy/Miniart Blazer and a Takom M60A1. So, looks like Addis some directed Suspemsion arms for the Tamita/Academy would be in order to compliment the bump stops you just created.
Tamiya/Academy Parts tree with the suspension arms.
Takom M60A1 parts tree with suspension arms and bump stops (you can see right off the bat the Takom suspension arms have the proper shape, whereas the Tamiya/ Academy are more simplified)
Geez! The more i see the comparisons, the more i steer to building the Takom and AFV Club version of the M60 more.
You will be all right with the Tamiya parts since those details will be almost invisible once you put the tracks on.
I think I am done with CADding 105mm gun for M60 “Slick” and M48A5. Used Takom kit measurements and reference photos.
Added rifling details - may show up in 1/35:
Added details around the bore evacuator:
Tapered back profile, added wrinkles to the “accordion” like canvas cover part
Tried to capture the “irregular” look:
Too bad most of these details will be hard to see underneath the search light.
Look ma, no seams from 2-part plastic assembly!
Yeah, simplified is the word when describing Tamiya and Academy M48/M60 series! Especially the suspension. I’m my worthless opinion, Takom produces the best M60 tanks out there, the bustle rack is a giant pain in the rear, but a great build and one piece tracks
I second that. I really like the way they go together. Great details too.
Started on M46’s gun barrel. The muzzle brake’s shape is quite complex for my CAD skill level. Too many frustrating curvatures! This is going to be time-consuming…
I know the shape is off! Working on fixing it.
Ah. I already have those photos. Thanks but not very helpful b/c I need close-up photos of the muzzle brake itself - front, side, and top if possible.
WIP Leopard 2A5 barrel. Sure, I could use the bore evacuator for an Abrams’ 120mm gun, too. CADding barrels turned out more fun than doing the tracks. I’ll improve the texture of the bore evacuator later using Z-Brush. More to come.
Added some irregular texture/wrinkles to BE but not sure how much of that would show up in 1/35 after 3D printing. We shall see:
There are three types of bore evacuator for the Rheinmetall 120mm gun.
A smooth one which is noticed on early variants mainly, one with pronounced texturing/weaving and one with less pronounced texturing. The two textured variants can be seen on A5/A6 variants mainly.
Wow, how about that? Life always gives you variances and potential market for all 3. Thanks for the info, Nikos.
