Cheers Don, although not the same, it’s good base to get some ideas about internal areas … Thanks
nice engine work on your Kamaz! wish I had more info on the interior colors to help ya out
Just so you get a rough idea about the parts count.
These are the sprues laid out on a spare bed with a panther for size comparison.
All in all, it’s about 677 parts, not bad for a truck …
I left building up the cab, as I wanted to get a start on the chassis. Began with the upper part that will be the base for the turret body and radar.
Still coming off the sprue very easy and no issue with fit. All very nice really and for my first Zvezda kit, I’m impressed.
Very nice chassis work ! I’m blown away with the amount of sprues for the Pantsir !
I assembled the cab, scrounged around the paint rack for a suitable green for the interior, then got busy making fumes . I ended up using testors pale green w a few drops of white to lighten it a touch.
The engine was sprayed silver w black valve covers, the exhaust manifolds were painted w a rusty brown base since this will be hidden under the hood .I just wanted some random color
Last up today was the " upper hull" . The compartments on this truck are huge pieces, but the details are tiny …heres some racks underneath w etch slides and teeny rollers .
Thanks for following along!
Peter
I don’t know much about the Rooikat so it’ll be a build from the box. Anyhow I can comment about fit issues and instructions mistakes when I find ones.
Olivier
Johnny and Jeff you’re doing a great job with these Russian monster trucks.
As I have the same Pantsir in the stash I’ll benefit from your experience.
Olivier
Great builds here, literally and figuratively…
Have a few of those big Russian monsters waiting in my stash, to bad I can’t use them in my IDF thing, otherwise I could combine it with this campaign…
Few more bits of progress.
Getting back to the Pantsir, after some work on Victory, and the LAV AD.
Built up the basic frame for the lower drive train chassis.
Went together really well. And it stayed nice and true throughout. One thing I have noticed about this Zvezda plastic is that it’s pretty soft, so a bit of extra care is needed when trimming/ cleaning up etc ( point for @SSGToms )
The engine is just dry fit to see how it looks.
And a shot of the upper frame, lower chassis and cab floor…
And after the windscreen surround, I didn’t think I could find any bits more fragile… WRONG !!
The windscreen wipers… I think if I blew them hard enough they would snap…
Nice looking frame and drive train on your Pantsir ! Those large pieces sure look detailed. Good heads up on the soft plastic.
Wife saw me checking out the AA- 60 kit of the maz 7310 Airport truck…I definitely need another maz for the fleet
At least the wiper seems to have reasonably sized attachments - just be real careful removing cleaning it up… and maybe put in a secure compartment box until painting then fitting. Looks like a tasty carpet monster morsel.
The moulded on detail on the chassis frame is pretty good to my eye. The front leaf springs and mounting points are all moulded on, and well detailed. All in all I am very happy so far with this choice of kit
I have to say John this appears to be a very high quality kit. The fit and finish are outstanding. The engineering seems fantastic. You’re just rolling right along. Good on Zvezda.
Yeah I am pleased with it. I also have the Zvezda T90MS and had a look at that last night and the parts look equally as nice as this one. I had heard some minor horror stories about their older kits, so was always a bit hesitant about them, but they seem to have really upped their game if these 2 kits are anything to go by
Most of their old kits were in fact reboxed Dragon kits which were poorly researched and out of scale. However at the time they were the only Soviet modern era vehicles plastic models.

The amount of detail crammed into that MA3 Bereg chassis is nothing short of amazing!
I am right now building the 7410 semi tractor .(almost the same chassis)
I picked the semi so hopefully I can still see some of that great detail once I am finished.
A little 8 wheel porn, Star Decals just dropped a MAZ-537 sheet.
Thanks , its been a joy going together. There was a finicky areas like the backwards drawings but sorted them out
I’ve been following your tractor build fantastic work
Yeah, you have to watch carefully on that MA3 kit as one minute they will show you a suspension assembly right side up and in the next frame show it upside down. And they do not call out this fact. You can easily go wrong there.
Have lately been doing some work on my “Military Scale” (1/35th) US lend/lease 2-8-0 steam locomotive from Commander Models. You can check that one out over in the Railroad Modeling section. By-the-way; There is a fair amount of WWII “Military Scale” modeling going on over there scattered amongst the other N, HO and O!

The lower blue line is the link back to the older archived article.
I do gotta get back to my MA3-7410 though and soon!
Are there any 8 wheeled train loco’s ?? just a thought ??
I have the A222 ready for primer ! The way trumpeter designed this kit allows for the major subassemblies to be painted separately. Very helpful considering the amount of acreage on this truck. I’m planning the box art scheme of green w light gray splotches edged in black.
Here’s the beast before breaking it down to begin the paint work
I left the guns upper hull flip up guard rails and a sensor mast off till paint …ive nearly broken those off test fitting.
