Centurions: Fist of the Empire

Now that is a basic tank driver training wagon …I take it that’s what it is ?

I love it!!it’s a pity that there are no more photos and the vehicle and the interior … what is the structure in the back of the vehicle for 2 photos ??
It’s an early version?

Indeed, that’s exactly what it is.

First picture is like a Australian driver trainer vehicle
2nd picture is a mk1 ARV with superstructure and spade removed looks like a long hull

Aussie driver training was never done on turretless tank hulls like this. Training was done in gun tanks and much later on a few hulls where damaged turrets were removed However an enclosed structure with seats was fitted in place of the turret:

I finished work on the hull rear, only the number plates and some stowage left to put.

I started working on the front hull details and ERA. Since I added the extra armour plate that the Mk5/1 Centurions had I went for the single row ERA block configuration.

Started on the wash. Only the hull has had one coat so far and you can see that compared to the untouched turret.

It’s the AK OIF/OEF wash and I will also be using the AK OIF/OEF streaking grime as well.

I also have the AK light dust and the dust and dirt wash to use, in between those I will do any fiddly detail painting or bits I missed.

Not sure if it was @ReluctantRenegade or @gtdeath13 who gave me some info about the center mount .50 and the trigger cables.
Guys, is it 2 cables , one on each pull rod, or 1 cable going through both ?
And I am sure whoever it was said they had seen the cables coloured white or grey ? Was that right ?

That my ham fisted scratch build of the remote trigger mech.

Two cables: one connected to the charging handle, the other one to the trigger. The cables these days are usually plastic covered (not always), but 50 years ago they were probably simple parachute cords or something similar.

Thank you Israel :+1:… I will paint the cables an off white … Or would IDF para cord be green ?

This is a contemporary setup of a solenoid operated system on a Merkava Mk.3, the plastic coated metal cables (with the red triangle) are only there for backup:

Green or black.

Brilliant, thanks Israel :+1::+1:

A few fiddly little bits done, and an update with how the Cent looks now.

Thanks to @ReluctantRenegade , I have fashioned the cable pulls for the remote firing mech on the center.50.
They are more than likely not exactly like the real things, but for my purposes they will be fine.
The red handle is for the trigger mech, and the black handle is the cocking mech cable. Cables are olive green.

Some shots of the Cent with the AK OIF wash and the streaking effects applied.

Now I got a bit carried away and thought I may add some tracer rounds on the .50 and .30 belts  you can’t beat a bit trace going down range :+1:
.50

.30 … That belt will be spit in 2.

Next up is the AK dust effects and some sand pigments.

Edit. Forgot to add, I followed the instructions for the recovery cables of 15cm, and glued them altogether, only to realise that they are longer than should be, that’s why they are secured through the gun clamp. Couldn’t be bothered cutting down to the shorter length, so they will be staying as is :innocent:

Decals!

@DennisatAutoloader very kindly cooked up some period correct decals for me. Ignore the wrinkles, it’s from the micro sol.

I actually can’t find a single photo of the tanks in this scheme on service with any markings, so I’m just going with a representative look. I don’t have the ability to cut serials small enough, so they may eventually get added at another date if I source some generic numbers.

That’s looking great so far @Canmedic !

This is something I don’t understand. It looks like the manufacturers never check their measurements.

Nice touch on the tracer rounds.

It is a pain, but it doesn’t look to bad how I did it. Glad you like the tracer rounds, I thought I should do something as I remembered you silvering the feed tray on one of your GPMGs you did a while ago

I believe that there should be a very special place in hell reserved for the people who design mantlets over at Legend productions, where they will have to assemble the mantlet they designed with the plastic parts without any gaps and that it should fit perfectly in size, even though resin shrinks over time!!!

They should also have to cut the metal barrels in size to fit their mantlets without power tools

Ooof. Tough luck Nikos. What’s your plan, putty and crossed fingers?

The mantlets really are the weak point of these kits, which is frustrating as only the very early marks were without the canvas covers.
