Group Build Description: The Hangar Queen was usually a plane that was relegated to being stripped down for parts or rebuilt to fly again. This campaign is for all those planes that didn’t make it over the finish line, or that sit upon the “shelf of doom”. The goal being to complete these builds and give them the recognition they deserve. Any scale, any subject as long it flies.
A Note about Awards: The following text is a reminder that in order for people participating and finishing their projects to receive a badge on their forum profile, they will need to provide their account username to the group build leader by the completion date of the build. The leader will then provide this list to the site admin who will bulk award the badges to those users who have finished the group build. If you don’t provide your username or finish the project on the timetable the leader has setup you will not be able to receive an award.
This is definitely the GB for me. I literally have a hangar queen. This Monogram B-17G fuselage has been hanging on a coat hanger in my shop for 6 months and the build has been hanging around for 15+ years! Basically the Fuselage is complete and the wings are almost painted. I need to wrap this one up this year!
Very motivational. I found the box with the rest of the stuff in it. It’s been a couple of years since I touched it. Hopefully those wood parts painted with oils have dried by now….
I have Tamiya’s 1/32 P-51D with Draw Decals “City of Winnipeg” markings sitting in the box which needs to be finished, think I will throw my hat in this ring to get it done.
I spent some time looking at what I had done previously. I remember dry fitting all the pieces around this pilot figure and everything fitting well. I think I had stopped at trying to figure out what to do about rigging. I saw a build where a guy built anchor bolts (?) for the rigging and bought some Eduard made “stretchers". I can’t imagine I thought I could pull either of those off. But I had started opening up the attachment holes a bit which I think will be useful. So, I’ll finish doing that.
The pilot I scratch-built from some 28mm wargaming figures and a little apoxie sculpt. For a guy who will be no more visible than he will be I’m fairly pleased. Too bad none of that beautiful cockpit detail will be visible.
Stuff will start going together after I make sure I’ve opened up the rigging holes just a tad.
I’ve dry-fit the rest of the fuselage parts and it will all go together I think! But I realized it’s time already for a little pre-painting. More anon….
