Hot Out of the Molds 2022

Looks good, Peter. You will get your skin painting skills tested on this one :smile:

Well, whaddya know, there’s life in the Meng 1/48 F/A-18F after all!

As a reminder, this is where I’m going with it:

This is my first time using AK paints on this scale. I’ve been a Tamiya user for years and someone told me that AK thinned with Gunze Mr. Leveler Thinner was very close to the same. It’s taken a bit of getting used to, but I’m starting to like it. Seems to go down thick and uneven, but looks great when dry.

My “Hot Out of the Molds 2022” contribution (along with hot from the molds from 1977)
Flyhawks Ajax and concurrent with it, the Matchbox Graf Spee. They do go together. I KNOW there are newer versions of the Spee but I really am not interested because I think the Spee is an ugly ship, The Spee will be built for the “Into the Deep” campaign

Michael, I have been using AK interactive as well. Very nice for spraying and gives a nice hard coverage for weathering.

@steviecee, welcome onboard! Looking forward to follow your build.

1/16 SOL MODELS “Deborah” figure sanded and primed, ready to paint.

Priming it wasn’t easy after construction. Because the right leg is separate, the pour blocks, even after sanding them down smooth, got in the way of a seamless fit so the leg had a micrometer gap and bulge that I had to constantly fill and sand down to make the right leg join smooth with the body. In doing so, I totally removed her lower bikini lines just to get a smooth finish. As such, I am going to make her wear leggings as is my original intention.

If SOL MODELS had to cast this figure again, I would have preferred a one-piece statue instead of pieces to cut, sand, and glue together, When it comes to skin, everything has to be smooth and flawless.

The tactical vest is JASON’s 3D 1/16 print festooned with spare part pouches.

Assembled the hull and started to dry fit the deck houses.

Part R1 should go on before Part C1 the front deck but the instuctions don’t make that clear. R1 will also needed to be painted before part J1 which covers 90% of it is added.

Part J1 needed to have some flash scraped off at the holes where the arrows point to allow it to set down to the deck properly. all these parts will be painted as sub assemblies

Its taken a minute but finally have the basecoat (and first filter) and tracks on this beast. I am not a fan of link and length tracks and these did not help change my mind.

Now onto detail work, decals and the various washes etc.

Hi mates,
I’m following this campaign as usual and let me say, all of you are making outstanding efforts and the results I see are really great!
Last but not least, two days ago I started a kit I bought at this year’s E-Day in the Czech Republic and just realized it qualified for HOTM 22 and that I nearly missed this campaign… :fearful:
So here are my starting pictures:

So far everything points to a smooth build because of Eduard quality. :+1:
See you and good luck to the finish line!
Cheers

Nice to see it goes together well, Peter. I bought the same plastic (different box) as well.

That BEAVERS ready for action.

New photos of my Avia S-199 here, now ready for decals :slightly_smiling_face:

…no putty needed, fitting is perfect. :sunglasses:

Looking good. Incredible how the lighting can change the color of the base color. Looks like cream in one picture and light grey in the other.

That’s absolutely right, the colour is - no wonder - something in between. But it’s more grey.
I used Gunze H324 as recommended by Eduard.

Hello mates, I call my Avia S-199 done! It was an enjoyable build and I liked this version of the Air Police :sunglasses: at once.

Good luck for all to finish in time!

I love that it says “OK-BYE”. I know that doesn’t mean the same thing in Czech as in English, but it’s still a chuckle. At any rate, nice work!
