IDF 77 :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Count me in !!!

I think i’ll build an AH-64D.

I’d love to take part! I’ll find something with wings and blue stars! :+1: :slightly_smiling_face:

I like it. I’m also up for another go.

Finally found time to get back to my Merkava Mk2B build. Had a medical appointment with the VA, so I took the day off and jumped right into it.

Finally done with the anti-slip on the hull. It was intimidating at first, but once you get the hang of it, it’s easier than you think.

Side skirts are built…

And primed. I’ll let these dry before I prime the opposite side.

Now, to work on the anti-slip on the turret.

The fuselage was quite difficult to align properly especially around the cockpit. I had to take it apart and retry multiple times. Once glued took quite a bit of filling and sanding. Given the natural metal finish any surface problems will stick out like a sore thumb. It took quite a few weeks, but I think I’ve got it cleaned up pretty well.

I side effect of the difficult assembly meant I had to strip out some cockpit detail. (And some of the PE details popped out!)

Test spray to help figure out what metallic colors for the panels

Masking off for panel painting

Metal panels complete!

I was a bit intimidated by the all metal finish. My previous attempt at all metal was an Egyptian MiG-17 and it went pretty poorly. However this time around the painting when incredibly well. The AK Extreme paint goes on nicely (a bit pricey though) It dries very fast and I was able to mask over it with Frog Tape for Delicate Surfaces. That tape left no residue at all, unlike the Tamiya masking tape which made quite a mess on my previous test model. I’ve been able to handle the painted model with bare hands and not leave any fingerprints. My only disappointment is that the colors really don’t have much difference. To make the vertical panels on the fuselage side stand out against the base aluminum I had to use Gunmetal which in my mind should be much darker.

The model itself has incredible detail. However assembly is a constant struggle. Nothing fits without repeated sanding down parts and adjustment. Several times I had to just walk away for a while due to extreme frustration. Next up are decals, but not until I can get the cockpit and canopy to go together nicely.

After quite some time, I’m taking up this project again.

I replaced the wire provided for the slings with copper wire.

We keep moving forward. Turret finished.

Now it’s time to paint.

It looks like something from Star Wars.

Got the canopy attached. Not my best work, but it was quite a fight.

Decals complete. The deals are very nice, well printed with lots of detail. Thin carrier film that almost completely disappears over the natural metal finish.

Of course things rarely go perfectly and in this case it was the red decals for the intakes. Lots of wrinkles and I was not able to get them out. Pretty obvious up close, but hopefully won’t be too noticeable when on the shelf in the display cabinet.

I’m worrying a little myself because your fitting issues. There are two unbuilt kits of these in my stash…
Looking forward to see your Mirage finished :raising_hand_man:
