Idf 77

I think it would be best to wait till June 1st to start the next one. You’ll still have people finishing up after June 1 and some of us are endeavoring to finish other group builds during the same timeframe. Just my thoughts

Unfortunately, these pictures are from the 1996 Ventura Publications book “Spitfire - Star of Israel”. The author, Alex Yofe, published an expanded and updated book on this subject in 2005, “Spitfire Mk.IX in the Israeli Air Force Service 1948-1956” where he acknowledges that some of his profiles were incorrect, specifically including the green/brown camo, which Israel never used (though Burma did when Israel sold them some Spits.) The newer book does show 2003/03 in the late blue/brown/gray scheme as Jesper suggested, so he’s good to go there.

BTW, if you’re interested in early IAF stuff, Yofe’s books are highly recommended. He’s published individual books on the Spit, Avia, B-17, and his newest on the P-51. No relationship here, just a satisfied customer.

Thank you for the clarification. I tried. :man_shrugging: :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: I’ve been out of the (IAF history) loop for a number of years and loss track of Yofe’s works. I will certainly seek them out. Thanks again.

There’s almost always someone out there with newer, more complete information. That’s the beauty of this site, modelers helping modelers!

Thanks for the extension - that helps to avoid rushing.

Thanks for the info. I might follow up on the Avia book. I have a ton of them in the stash.

I’m actually starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel, and it’s not the train coming to run me over….

I don’t think.

Detail painting is about done, skirts and tracks are ready for installation. It’s time to start weathering.

The finish line is in sight.

My original plan was to display a Hotchkiss tank being refueled.

In the end, I decided on a diorama featuring a civilian fighter standing in front of the tank on a map of the eraly stage of the independance war.

The tank is currently in weathering stage, and I’m going to start painting the figure.

Wash is on and scrubbed, I need to do a little highlighting and then I can dust it.

Getting very close here. I still need headlight lenses, tow cables, MGs, side skirts and the loader’s hatch but I’m starting to like it. I may nut up and build the Australian version that’s in the stash.

Using the Legends stowage sure moved things along too. If I do another IDF tank I’ll use it again.

It does look nice and the legend crew stuff is a great addition.

I’m calling this done. I’ve had a couple of productive evenings and was able to do the little things it lacked, so until it gets a base and figs it’s going to the case.

Very nice finish! The stowage is a great addition and very realistic.

A superb job. The detail and the baggage really make this stand out. I like it!

A bit more progress on my spitfire. The camouflage is taking shape.

More to follow :slightly_smiling_face:

Can I mark it as completed?

Egyptian Unimog 404 captured by the IDF in 1973. It will still be part of a diorama with figures.
