New Here

Hi all! I’ve been trolling these forums for years and finally decided to get on board. I miss the forum medium.. when I was a kid I would constantly be on the ML forums but that site has been so overrun with ads it’s hardly worth bothering anymore. I spend most of my time on Facebook but I’ll be sharing my work here as well.

About me, I was an infantryman in the US Army from 2004 to 2011, did two combat tours in Iraq. I was a mechanized rifleman for a while, then became a gunner in the M2A3 Bradley. Currently in my 15th year of law enforcement.

I built models as a kid but only got serious about in in 2015 or so. About two years later I discovered my passion was in Arab and Iranian armor, most specifically Iraqi subjects. Along with a few other nerds, I’ve been researching and identifying units of the old Iraqi army and Republican Guard forces. I geek out so hard on this stuff that it’s all I model anymore.

Here are a few of my builds from the last couple years.

T-55A, 31st Tank Regiment, Iraqi 56th Armored Brigade “Al Kuwaiti,” attached to 14th Infantry Division “Hamza ibn abd al Muttalib,” Iraqi 4th Army Corps “Al Hitteen,” southern Kuwait, 1991. Kit is theMiniArt Models1/35 Polish-built T-55A #37090, with Iraqi-style infrared lamp shields and Chinese track skirs designed and printed by me, Hamza Division markings designed by me and printed by DDRAW Decal tow cables from Eureka XXL-Model Accessories tracks from TT-Rex-Studio and DShK from E.T.Model.

M47M, Iranian 81st Armored Division “Kermanshah,” Khatam ol-Anbiya Corps, Operation Val Fajr 8, southeastern Iraq, February 1986. This is the Takom 1/35 kit with a lot of additions. The infantry field telephone box in the kit was totally incorrect for this version of the M47M, being more accurate for a Spanish Army example, so I rendered a new, correct one in Shapr3D and printed it on my resin printer. The Iranian-made .50-caliber ammunition boxes in the turret rail were also done in the same manner. Both of these items are available as free downloads from my profile on Cults3D. The M2HB .50-caliber machine gun is the gorgeous resin offering from Master Models. The stowage is a combination of resin castings from Value Gear Details and my own sculpts, made from epoxy putty and Tamiya tape for the straps.

AuF-1 GCT, Iraqi Republican Guard Armored Division “Madīnah al-Munawarah,” Operation Tawakalnā ‘alā-llāh, Majnoon Islands, southeastern Iraq, April 1988. 1/35 Meng kit with track skirts and side hull plates sourced from the Meng AMX-30 kit, with scratchbuilt ladders and sandbags sculpted from epoxy putty. All markings were painted using tape masks.

T-62 obr.1972, 3rd Tank Regiment “Qutayba ibn Muslim,” 12th Armored Brigade, Iraqi 3rd Armored Division “Salah ad-Din,” Operation Karbala-5 battles, southeastern Iraq, January 1987. 1/35 Zvezda T-62 obr.1975 kit, backdated to an obr.1972, with track skirts from Takom and stowage from Value Gear Details. Markings are painted.

1/35 T-62 obr.1972, 1st Tank Regiment “Al Qadisiyah,” 12th Armored Brigade, Iraqi 3rd Armored Division “Salah ad Din,” Az Zubayr, Basra Province, Iraq, 2003. Zvezda T-62 obr.1975 kit modified to the 1972 version (without KTD rangefinder), with MiniArt Iraqi lamp armor and some scratchbuilt parts. All markings are painted.

Welcome along to the forum Matt. I have a quick browse on ML every so often and have seen some of your builds over there. It is great to see some I have not seen posted here. I particularly like that T-72 with the script on the side skirts and the BMP-1 with the rust coming down around the side. It’s clear you put a lot of research into each vehicle to get them looking right. Looking forward to seeing more of your contributions here.

Welcome to the rodeo Matt, nice to see your collection of armor, I gave up on Missing Links’ site long ago which is a shame since it was the origin of my intro to internet modeling but the guys here on KM have been graciously tolerant of my mediocre participation, looking forward to your future input to the forum.

Welcome Matt! Absolutely superb work there, a great display of your modeling talents. I was on ML for years as well and gave up too lol.
You are obviously going to be the “go to “ guy for Arab/ Iranian armor on this site I can see.
Again, excellent work and welcome to the site.

Hi Matt! Welcome from the other side of the world and thanks for sharing some of your builds. They look like you’ve put a lot of effort into research and getting the little details right. Also I’m very jealous that you’ve got a 3d printer. That must be so useful for getting right those unique and niche elements of models such as the ones you’ve got a clearly amazing knowledge of!
