Painted in the base coat colors. I still need to detail paint, shade, highlight, drybrush, and touch up. Progress has been very slow with life getting in the way.
I intend to use Tamiya Black Panel Liner for the body armor. This will be my first time using Tamiya Panel Liner so I hope that it works well.
It was a long time ago I wrote about the first build sessions - and did not upload any progress since. As you may recall, the kit has flaws and FORD (failed or rejected details) and I lost the mojo to continue. In the mean time I built three tanks in 1/35 and after finishing the last, caught up the Snowspeeder - by force.
The photos were taken mid June at that stage of the project. I have done some progress since and it will be submitted later this week.
Was not a straightforward process.
I had to scratchbuild a new floor for the cockpit to ensure that the seats will fit in. Finally had to cut off the headrest as the 1/32 seats do not completely fit (seats are not presented in these photos).
Decided to cut out two circular sections of the back exhaust (?) to insert two F-35 (A,C) Lightning II 3D printed exhausts in 1/72 scale from Reskitās (also not presented in these photos).
Cut off the end of the main guns and drilled them out to insert Aberās T-55 metal barrels in 1/48 as the original one in the kit looks way too big for me (also not in these photos).
Complete scratchbuild for the pilots instrument panel and fore section to add Eduardās A-10 dashboard in 1/32 scale (will insert after the cockpit painted).
A complete scratchbuild of the wheelbays using random plastic parts to my liking. As the original main wheels I was donated from a friend of mine are not detailed enough, I bought a cheap Academy Mirage IIIR kit and used the wheels from that.
Well, those sleepless nights delivered a great result, I think. Actually it was a great fun spraying the first base coat. The road was not easy to get there but the final look made it up for all.
Looks great so far! Only thing is that Snowspeeders do not have wheelsā¦they have one landing skid to hold the front end upā¦rest of the body rests on the sloped āwingsā.
They are repulsar lift vehiclesā¦do not roll to take off like a planeā¦they lift up and fly away.
Surely I know that the original vehicle in a far-far away galaxy has no wheels but my concept is a Low Flying Air Support Vehicle for the Hungarian Defence Forces in the 2030s.
It will be camo painted, having M2 machine gun on the back and F-35 Lightning II exhausts.
One it is fantasy, make it full.
If Tamas @Agriamodeling wants to be screen correct heāll need to add a great big ugly box to the underside to hide the out of camera lifting arm. I donāt know of anybody whoās had the urge to do so.
As promised a couple of days before, I upload here another set of pics made yesterday. I have finished the raw build of the model on the weekend with the cannons (100 mm T-55 main guns in 1/48 scale) and the scratchbuilt gear bay covers. It took me some attempts to tackle with slot in between the guns and their holding assy on the wing front but finally could.
The bottom side remained grey to ease the planned light.grey paint. The top is now covered with Gunze 1500 grade Finishing Black Surfacer (as I regularly do it on my tanks).
Still have to build the back-facing machine gun but that is OK, will be done after the painting process completed, hopefully this weekend. The weather and familiar commitments may slow me down, though. Anyway, it looks very cool in black, isnāt it?
