Takom Iowa Class Mark 7, 16"50Cal Turret with Full Interior Start-to-Finish

Excellent. I really sincerely congratulate you. Can I share these images.

Yes. Be my guest.

Hello – I was searching for information on the Iowa 16” gun breech and came across this site. Had no idea that anyone would even consider modeling the entire gun turret. What an amazing piece of work. Your modeling and design skills are superb but what is also so impressive is your “stamina” to just keep trucking through this massive project!

I’m looking into a display project that will model the gun room full size. It will just be what you can see from inside that compartment. If you could point me to CAD drawings, dimensioned Navy drawings, photos, etc that would be most appreciated. Including my email in case you’d like to communicate directly: jared_kATearthlinkDOTnet.

jared_kATearthlinkDOTnet: I can’t seem to connect to this address. Can you message me an eMail address. I have a response waiting to go, but the address didn’t work.

I’m an indiot! I didn’t realize that the transcription of your address change @ to AT and . to DOT. I fixed that, and the note is on its way.

I am truly impressed by your skill, patience, and perseverance in this project. I didnt read the entire thread but read enough that it was a pain staking project and the level of detail is immaculate. My family and I were juat there yesterday. Anytime i get to tour a ship, I take it especially if it’s a battleship or aircaft carrier. I see you live in Louisville, KY? We do as well.

What is your next project?

I am very pleased that you got to see the model in person. You asked what’s the next project. It’s this…

This is what’s been drawn as of yesterday. Still to draw is the main control panel and electrical cabinets.

I’m modeling the Big J’s "3 Engine Room. Like all my projects, I’m recording this one in its entirety on this Forum at:

This one is as challenging (maybe more) the either the 16" or 5" turrets on display in the ship.

I really didn’t know if I could pull this one off. The jury’s still out, but it’s looking pretty good at this point. I’m about 95% complete on all the drawing tasks and about 90% on the printing. Paint and assembly haven’t started in earnest, although I have primed a few parts.

This is some, not all, of what’s been created so far.

And like the others, I had to learn how to do new things to make it all work.

This gives you another reason to visit the ship sometime later in the year. Probably should be done the model around September.
