Vietnam 60

That will be one brutal scene.
The conversionwork done so far is of another level.

I’ve added the steering system (minus the bottom linkage I need to scratch) and the seat.

The only cargo I’ll have (as of now) is the stack of tarps and the crate (1/16th from Value Gear). If I can find some rounds/cases, I’ll add those (and probably move the cargo around - the search is on!). I’ll probably get to the tarp straps tomorrow.

Change xxx. I will add the second muffler - I didn’t feel like removing its brackets. Big hassle.)

One more piece to add to the back end (along with placing and gluing the recoilless rifle and crate) then it’s weathering time.

I’ve located some 1/16 rounds AND…a Mermite container and fuel cans. The rounds for sure and thinking at least the Mermite. Also have a line on an M16.

Looking good, Mike!

I didn’t realize you were working in 1/16th. Impressive.

Happy Modeling,

Construction is complete. I just waiting for a rifle, a Mermite, and the rounds. Once those arrive, I’ll do the weathering to complete this build.

I am almost at the paint stage. Mostly done with the turret but need to put the screens on the rear deck. This kit has been a joy to build so far. I have only one part that I had to fiddle with, a little. If you want to recommend a kit for those just starting I would add this to the list due to how well it goes together. If you have been beat down by a 1200 part kit that took some massaging to get it done, this kit will be a soul cleanser.

Gregg I have a question, the wading screen channels on the hull sponsons are molded uncovered aren’t they?

The shells and canisters arrived today. Pretty impressed with the shell casing’s casting. The canisters show the printing lines, just a little. Easily sanded. I’ll see about adding the line around and down on the canisters ( / / / / ) to show the seams where cardboard material was wrapped diagonally. The mermite container is really nice aside from the faint printing seams. Pretty sure those’ll disappear once they’ve been primed and painted.

I’d like to add one of the empty shell casings to the mule. May, may not.

This is, more or less, the load out of the Mule. Last element I’ll add will be an M16.

Mermite and ammo tubes painted (you can see the “seams” I put on the tubes with a #11 blade).

What are your thoughts? Placement? Colors? Recoilless rifle? Comments appreciated!

After contemplating how I might accomplish the flechettes fired at the M113, I realized that instead of cutting up one of my M113 kits to make a wedgie I figured I needed a more solid piece for it. I went ahead and bought tge damaged M113 from Black Dog as the wedgie that I will be using.

I rearranged the figures a bit. I also did some research concerning wounds created by the flechettes from beehive rounds. I think I can accomplish the effect I want without it being tio gory for the general public since the flechettes created multiple tiny wounds passing easily through soft tissue and bone. Since the flechettes were so small, “nailing” a bad guy to the side of the track would be unlikely, although it would be cool if it were a movie instead of a vignette.
Anyway, this is how I rearranged the figures.

Once I get the pouring plug area cut down and sanded I will see how the flechettes will look.

Cheers,
James

Looks terribly dramatic; hope you get the effects you have in mind.

Looks like this here campaign is in serious need of some wingy-thingies. Question is, which one?

The F-4 is much newer and will not require re-scribing. The 105 has a Kendall (remember them?) interior, but I will want to re-scribe it and there are a LOT of panel lines. Decisions, decisions…

Thogh I don’t model birds (because of time) I like them a lot and I would follow the F4! Just me

Well, I say do the Polish Glider! The aircraft is now on display in the Aircraft museum in Krakow

I actually met Don Kutyna once, years ago, at the Air Force Academy. Our local club put on a display for a ball they had and a couple of us attended. Came off as a nice guy for the few minutes I talked to him. Had his picture taken with my Hasegawa 1/32 F-104. I do plan to do his 105, but also want to do Bud Anderson’s Old Crow. I actually have a couple of those beasts in my stash.

Seems like we need one of these.

I won’t start on it for awhile, but plan to.

i don’t ever remember seeing a dustoff with rocket pods on it, surely they would impede movement of the wounded to and from the helicopter?
