sorry to hear that, it’s impressive how realistic you made that look. Hopefully you can finish it at a later date I for one would like to see the end result.

Thank you. I probably will try to finish it at a later date. I just won’t be able to for this particular build campaign.
Your work speak for itself, so I guess you will figure it out. My personal favourite is the second setup (but without the severed leg).
After noting the kit shows the markings in non regulation positions (and I had never seen them like that while at Cu Chi)), I looked up some old photos of the 3/4 Cav in RVN. Sure as hell, there’s an M48 with the unit codes just as shown in the kit! Someone at Mattel must have seen the same photo. Goes to show there are no absolutes, so you’re free to put 'em on either side without being wrong.
Re:The individual flechettes…I was about to nominate you for the “Far More Patience Than I Will Ever Have” award! Ah well…BTW, noticed dead NVA with MAT-49, nice touch.Your work still amazes me.
Thanks for your input, Erik.
The leg really isn’t severed, it is supposed to represent even more stuff going on beyond the borders of the base, but since it isn’t doing that effectively, I will not include it. Feedback like this helps with ensuring the best possible presentation.
After looking at these three options together, I am kind of leaning towards the second one as well. The first one is just too crowded after looking at it after some time has passed. If the second one can effectively convey to tge audience that the two standing guys endured a human wave attack with one less figure, then that is the way to go.
Thanks, SFCJJC.
It definately did take a lot of patience to get as far as I did with the flechettes before the unfortunate accident. I will probably get back to it eventually, but not for this build campaign.
The MAT49 was part of the figure set from Bravo 6, but I would have used that or some other older weapon to show how the VC were armed in the earlier years of US involvement. When the big weapons cache was discovered near Bearcat in October 1967, my dad told me that there were old German, American, French, and other weapons from WW2 and even WW1 mixed in with AKs and SKSs. There were even some 75mm pack howitzers four stories down.
Gloss coat before a few decals and washes. I still have to find some lenses for it, since the ones in the kit is green plastic
The M151 crew is allmost finished. They look a bit shiny since the dull coat was still a bit damp when I took the pictures. These figures are not the best Vietnam figures out there, but they will do.
I haven’t forgotten my Mule. I’ve been working on a Tamiya AHN cargo truck.
I did receive the M16A1 and after priming, I applied Satin Black to the stock, foregrip, and pistol grip.

So, I just actually started on step one and I’m still on step one the sprues are not coded parts are numbered but sheesh small bits seem to look alike, and I really wish the parts were labeled better . But it has been a mad minute since I have had any plastic under the knife so may start back after some football…

I´m getting close to finished. There are still some detail paint, touch -ups and weathering to be done, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I found some lenses for the front light as well. They are not perfect, but looks way better than what is supplied in the kit.
As a replacement for the M113 wedgie that got damaged when it got dropped, I made a wedgie of a sandbagged fighting position. The sandbags are made from Magic Sculpt textured with the endcap of a mini drill. There is a piece of photo etched PSP to support the roof. Normally there would only be three layers of sandbags, but this one was also used for observation during the day so the top sported somewhat of a three sandbag high wall to provide protection for the observer.
While the putty was still wet, I made some bullet holes in a few of the sandbags and a slice across one of the top ones where a ricochet grazed across the top of the bag. Once painted and on the base I will add some sand to a few of the holes to replicate some of the dirt spilling out.
Once the putty cures I will sand down the edges to even them out. I cropped the left side of the photo to show what it will look like.
And this is how it will be positioned in the vignette…
well I’ve taken the first step to taking part in this campaign, I’ve ordered the MACV-SOG figures that i want to experiment a new way of painting with.
I look forward to seeing how the new technique for painting figures works out for you.
Here’s my entry for the GB, Dagon’s Zippo, I’ll probably replace the tracks I’m sure . . .
Glad to be back to something to build more in line with my project.

The crew has boarded the M151. The gunner was a real pain in the a*s, and I have to figure out if I´m able to get his hands to fit better to the .50… Otherwise I´m pretty happy with how this is going.
Hello all just finished part 1 of my M48A2 4-piece lower hull and some of the return wheels glued the drivers hatch closed the seam on the bottom of the lower hull is somewhat funky may try my hand a using some scrap sprue to fill it. don’t have my model putty handy sooo ill just keep on this is an old kit and I’m not crazy about the multi piece lower hulls I’m kind of partial to the bathtub style. but I am having fun.
