What the postman brought today (AutoModeler)

Thanks Joel.
I want to review the kit first, then I will probably enter it into the Wheels of the Union Jack and Tricolore campaign, as it fits very nicely into that.
Also gives me time to get the paints I need for it, and make up my mind what colour the interior will be.

Well postie finally arrived with these after taking them back to the depot twice without leaving any card telling me they had tried to deliver.

I’m starting to get the urge to try a Tamiya 1/12 scale bike as my change of pace from cars every so often. Maybe 1 or 2 per year. Just haven’t a clue on how to build one as yet. So I’ll be looking forward to your builds for sure.

That’s one very interest Willys 1940 modified truck. Are you going to build it as it’s on the box top?

Hi again

Big thanks to Joel for sending me a bottle of Solvaset!

It doesn’t seem to be readily available in the UK these days, so I really appreciate Joel helping me to get some again.

All the best

Rowan,
Just glad to help out. You’d have done the same for me.

Is Walthers any different/better or worse then Microscale?

In my usage, Walthers is my “Go To” decal setting solution. It works to get decals to settle over rivets, into panel lines on top of “zimmerit”! I personally have not found a decal it can’t settle. Hope this helps, Joel.

Thanks. The Microscale products do the same thing but I cannot say I have heard of the Walthers product before as everyone mentions the Microscale products when asked about treating decals.

Hi Joel

Yep - just let me know if there’s anything we have in the UK that you’re having trouble buying.

Hi Ryan

Solvaset is great to have at hand. It’s fairly strong straight from the bottle (but, of course, you can dilute it) and it used to be readily available here in the UK. I basically used it on almost all my builds once I found it, because would beat even the toughest decals into submission. A bottle lasts years - but it was a bit of a “modelling catastrophe” when mine finally ran out and I realised I couldn’t easily replace it. Once again, major thanks to Joel for coming to the rescue!

Solvaset was developed for railroad modelers to make decals snuggle down over vents, rivets, and anything else that sticks up. Walthers is a major supplier of all things railroad related. Hope this helps, Joel.

Post man has been dropping these of the last week.

All PYRO made 1960-65 1/32 scale and complete and not cut from sprues.

I use Solvaset in conjunction with Micro Set and Sol as a 3 part process. I’ve yet to loose the battle to the thickest kit decals when AM wasn’t available.

As with all setting solutions, let them do the work, not you. Each solution is brushed on, and then when it’s just about dry I pat it down so very gently.

Richard,
That’s some haul you got there. I do remember those kits from my teen years. Looking forward to following your builds for sure.

Richard, quite a collection of gems, you’ve found there. Love the box-art.

Hi again

Apologies to all those who aren’t remotely interested in “twangy things” - but what’s become pretty much my annual distraction from modelling arrived today… my latest guitar!

It’s the closest I can afford to full-on “custom shop” - a T-Style with a difference… built by Ton Fuchs (@tonfuchs_guitars) luthiers in Germany as an initial limited run of just 10 Tone Fox “Teles” using selected parts, fitted with hand-wound German P90s and then put through their full-spec process from that point on.

Straight out of its case, it’s the lightest and most acoustically resonant electric that I’ve got. Plugged in, it’s amazingly responsive - the P90s reflect your playing style like none of my other electric guitars can match, going from mellow to a full-on growl purely based on attack. Ton Fuchs have gone for an “aged” look - and, for me, they’ve judged it perfectly - it feels like a well played-in guitar without any OTT weathering. Basically, I picked it up and feels like an old friend among the axes which I have dating back too the '70s, even though it’s brand new - perfect for me.

The Tone Fox will get its first outing on Friday night… I can hardly wait!

Rowan,
All the best to you with your guitar. Just find a little time to actually build a model, not just review it.

joel

Great to see it arrived and will be put to work straight away Rowan. I love the black-on-black with cream trim you chose, a beautifully finished instrument. That would make an interesting theme for a build mate, do up a car in the same colours as your favourite guitar! I’m just not sure how I would go about replicating the scratch plate on my Fender Lone Star

I’m really looking forward to your post-match report after the first gig Friday night, I hope it goes well and more importantly, you have a whole heap of fun!

Cheers, D

Rowan,
As D said, have a great gig, and enjoy yourself.

Just a thought that it would really be neat if you and D could play a duet together. Of course you guys live literally half a world apart.
