Next step is to blend with a glaze. Very nervous about that. The pattern is autumn plane tree…
So I’m also a little perplexed by the SS collar insignia. I think they used silver thread for the runes, but metallic silver is not going to be appropriate. Any suggestions from folks with experience here?
My figure is generally completed.
I’m adding putty groundwork to my base and will add rocks, pebbles, grass, etc. Homestretch…I hope to complete this campaign soon and then move onto my other two campaigns that I enrolled in for 2025.
Glaze made with the andrea dark shade in the pack blended with tap water. Thinned right down.
Not sure the phone captures the difference but the glaze did a fine job of blending and took the edge off the contrasts. Will highlight a few places then move on to the skin!
"Hi, my name is Sara Croft. Many call me `The Lone Wolf.’
"Most of you don’t know me. I’m the cousin of the `famous’ Archeologist, Lara Croft.
"The reason why you don’t know me is that if I pull off my `Force Archeology mission,’ you’d never even know I was there. Unlike Lara, I pack more than just two 9mm handguns…I pack “heavy” because there are some really bad people out there willing to do whatever it takes to stop me. Hey, a girl’s got to survive out there, you know, and it’s a wild, wild dangerous jungle hunting for prized treasure and rare valuable artifacts. I got some heavy backup waiting with just a call away. I go on missions where Lara doesn’t go…and I have to say, I’m the better shot.
"So, I got a M4A1 with M203, a secure satellite radio, a 9mm handgun, pouches for 40mm grenades, 5.56mm and 9mm spare magazines, and some food and water. Like Lara, I travel light without body armor and a backpack, and like Lara, it’s `slow is smooth and smooth is fast.’ But whereas Lara uses her speed and agility to survive, I use more firepower when the going gets tough and dirty. I got some mean fangs!
“It’s been nice talking to you…hope I don’t see you around anytime soon because I don’t want to encounter you dressed like this and carrying these things. Most likely that wouldn’t be a good day for you. Ta-ta!”
The dust pigments on the boots still need to dry, but I’m calling this one finished. It’s Hasegawa’s 1/12 “Soldier” figure with Live-Resin’s 1/12 3-D printed pouches that I custom ordered from Live-Resin. I didn’t like that Live-Resin’s M4A1 with M203 didn’t have hollow barrels so I bit and bought the 1/12 Little Armory M4A1 with M203, a gem of a carbine kit. The empty 1/12 thigh holster was 3D printed from ETSY. The plinth is from Scale75. The groundwork is AK Interactive’s “Crackling Dirt” over “Beach Sand,” and the weeds are a mixture of Army Painter and Gamer’s Grass for the taller green weed. The wolf head coin is from ETSY.
I painted it with Vallejo paints, washes, and inks and dry-brushed with AK Interactive Dry Brush paints. The eyes were made with Bandai Gundam Black Marker. There’s white in her eyes, just doesn’t show well on camera.
I really didn’t spend a lot of time of this figure due to daily life. I started with AK Interactive’s Real Color Marker set, but the skin tone markers didn’t adhere well to the smooth primer…her skin was too smooth. So I painted the flesh with Vallejos and a paintbrush, only to have the AK Markers’s flesh paint mostly peel off and “texture” the skin. So there was a lot of Q-Tip wiping and repainting her flesh.
The thin shoelaces did indeed break at the tips, but I managed to get most of the shoelaces glued on and the viewer probably wouldn’t notice.
It’s a great figure kit and I highly recommend it.
Sorry for the poor quality photos…
Original kit…photo from Amazon
I love what you did there!
Just one suggestion if you can still alter it; have the rifle sling under the arm on the front and let the barrel point down at an angle. That will look a lot more natural.
I did a similar build once, going from a beachbunny to a bushcraft-girl a.k.a. Bushcraft Betty.
She got a t-shirt, pants, boots, a knife, binoculars, compass and a mapcase. Made her an oldstyle frame backpack too.
My hands weren’t steady enough to do the small buckles and buttons so I stopped for a bit. I’ll get up in the morning and knock down a few cups of joe and go at it again.
And I realized I don’t really know how to paint the smg so need to do a little research.
But all that is left then is the skin. If the eyes look a little gruesome at this point, they will come into focus when I do the skin around them. I kinda wish I’d painted the heads separately and glued them on at the end, but oh well.
@Trisaw and @RonW
You figure mods and details are great story telling.
@phil2015
Your military uniform painting skills are off the hook!
Thanks!
I used Gorilla Glue so the carbine is glued permanently, unfortunately, with no possibility of debonding or removing it. However, I agree with your suggestion that I should have pointed the barrel downwards…next time for another figure campaign.
Your lady figure is excellent! Thanks for sharing. ![]()
Closer. Base coat down on skin.
Revealing that the driver has crossed eyes … which will need some correction…
All that is left is to attach and paint the extremely fragile gunstock and a strap for the mp40. I’m thinking I might do the strap first as once that stock is on only delicate handling will be allowed.
When does the next figure campaign begin?

Create one..?
Looking at pictures of mp40s made me think the strap would likely be under the gun across his leg, so all that is visible is the little bit of strap to the side. That was easier actually.
Blowing this pic up tells me I need to keep working on faces. But they look pretty good under the magnifier I use for painting and with my eyesight there is not much to see without the magnifier.
Now searching to see if I have any more SS figs that needs this camo in my stash…
And with that, the campaign is finished! Congratulations to @phil2015 @Trisaw @amoz02t @SamS @KoSprueone @SGTJKJ @RonW @bwilt for finishing the campaign! All of y’all’s entries turned out amazing, and I enjoyed scrolling back through and seeing the progress and finished results.
If I missed someone, please reply to the completion post (where you posted final pictures) and @ me and I’ll add you to the list! I’ll give it a few days before I send off the final list.
I do want to run another one of these, seeing as y’all seem to enjoy them, but I haven’t been doing much modeling recently and as such I haven’t been on the forum. I’ll start another campaign for sure, but are any of you guys willing to volunteer to be a co-leader so that we have people to answer questions if I miss it?
Thanks for the campaign! ![]()
I look forward to the next iteration.
Agreeing with Trisaw, Yes, thanks very much!
Yes, it was great fun indeed.
I might try something different next time.
Thanks for steering this one Colin! Very much appreciated! This reinforced to me how I need more practice but also how it’s actually quite nice to do this with your mates giving encouragement along the way, rather than sitting huddled up annoyed and alone!
