Sci-Fi and Alternative history campaign VIII

@RuloMxy Raul, great choice. I have the same kit in the attic somewhere. Looking forward to what you come up with? What camouflage and markings are you thinking of?

@Johnnych01 all your hard work is paying of! It looks great and the layout of the diorama will be great. Some of the Tamiya tank crew loading might fit with the rocket loading.

@phantom_phanatic Stephen, interesting question. Definitely at the edge of the campaign scope, but I guess an alternative timeline can be build to support a navy gnat. I will allow it :+1:t2::slightly_smiling_face:

I have been thinking the same thing. Oddball’s Sherman or the howitzer armed M5 Halftrack from Kelly’s Heroes (yes it is not an M3):

Col Hessler’s Patton

or Telly Savalas’s Chaffee from The Battle of the Bulge (pre the final scenes where is a tad worse for wear:

…and I have not even scratched the top coat of paint…

I might actually propose this for a start next year…

I am calling this one finished. I added a base, groundwork, and the coin that I saved for the Sniper Campaign but was too late to build anything for it.

Finished: 1/20 GreenStrawberry’s kneeling Recon Drone Sniper.

Base is Scale75, leaves are Gamer’s Grass, and weed tufts are Army Painter. Cracked groundwork putty is a mixture of AK Interactive’s Crackle light and dark mud. Thanks for the Sc-Fi Campaign!

Nicely done there Peter. The base really finished it all off nicely. I like that cracked ground work, looks perfect for a hot very dry environment :+1:

Well finally got to start on my entry and first model kit in YEARS this weekend. Object 279 1/72 by Meng. Ive not worked on a meng kit yet but it looks nice.

Then I started it and yeah, not a shake and bake kit, I also realized I’m not as young as I used to be.LOL.

Started on the running gear pylons. These have tracks on both sides of the pylon with 2 pylons streaching the length of the hull. Apparently they hydro numatic and can be raised or lowered to suit the terrain much like on the BMD. You have the option of raised or lowered position.

They needed some sanding and cutting. I thought I would try out AK’s Mixed Grit sanding pad set. Basicly soft foam backed sand paper. Nice and bendy!

After that I started on some of the basics on the hull…tow hooks…tiny tow hooks…uhg!

Of course lost one while trying to clean it up. Thank goodness there are 2 kits in the box. Had to pull out Dr. Magnifiers head mount!

Next on the list is to work on the top and then tracks. As i love the look of the soviet droopy tracks I will be attempting to make the top portion of track movable. Some casting and tiny drill bits coming up! Thanks for looking.

@SGTJKJ
I am leaning toward building the kit as an Iranian Republican Guard tank with a two-color camouflage (green and sand).
I used a spare AEF Designs gun barrel. I removed a lot of the upper hull design. I will be scratch-building some of the upper hull detail and using part of an Eduard detail set.

@Johnnych01 Thanks, John! :slightly_smiling_face:

I need to add a little pigments here and there and perhaps a few more weed tufts, but I’m still calling this one complete.

Not stalled with this one, just started doing the base groundwork, using the mudrock plaster bandage over an oasis and wood block form. Will do a couple of images once it’s dried out and I have built it up a bit :+1:

Got the basic groundwork done.

The slight height differences between where the wagons will sit.

The block outlined on the higher left side is where the Panther will sit.
The outline block on the lower left is for the Tiger Rheintochter.

There will be areas of various lengths of static grass and some still water around the oil drum in the middle.

Looks great, Johnny! Should you angle the tanks more to one side to get more of a three quarters view than just the head on front view?

Thanks Jesper. It’s about the room really. I didn’t want to do a bigger ground area to save space really. Also, as both turntables move, it’s easier to replen side to side or nose to tail. Once I get the wagons on it that should make it look more obvious :+1:
Also, I was limited by the Rheintochter blast deflector, and the distances between the spare missiles…in hindsight, I should of shown an outer missile being used instead of the central one

The ditch in the middle reminds me of an old Verlinden dio.:

Groundwork is 80% done now, just need to tidy up a few places, start adding the sitting water, some small bushes, old track links and a rusty 200ltr fuel drum and some random tall grass Tufts/areas.

Just so you get the general idea of the look.

Drainage culverts often have small branches and twigs in them. They get jammed against the wall or up against an obstruction. They break up an open area nicely. The dried roots of weeds work well for this.

Some great groundwork going on there John, :+1: :slightly_smiling_face:. Is it going to be a dry ditch, or will you be adding some water as you did with your panther/bridge diorama?

G,

Yes, the ditch has raised areas at both ends, so it will just be sitting dirty water, and I will add a slightly rusted 200ltr fuel drum into as well as some long grass bits.

Started building up the groundwork details and added the first layer of AK puddles.

Will have this one complete in the next few days then it’s just adding some last minute weathering and pigments to the 2 wagons.
